Progressive Era Magazine Project


Directions: You will be assigned to a group of four. Once you get into your group, you will:
1. Choose a team leader
2. Exchange email addresses
3. Choose a topic for your magazine: Social/Political/Economic/Environmental
Reform
4. Assign one of the following roles to each group member
a. Writer #1 (Interview): Interview a Progressive era muckraker
b. Writer #2 (Expose): Research and write about government efforts made to
create reform in your topic
c. Artist (Graphics): Responsible for artwork and 5-6 political cartoons and 1
paragraph explanation for each cartoon about how it relates to your topic
d. Writer #3 (Editorial): Evaluate the amount of progress made in reforming your
topic and propose at least 2 of your own solutions for reform
For this project, you will be using Lucidpress.com to create your magazine. You will be given
time in the classroom and in the computer lab to work on your magazine. However, each
person will be responsible for bringing in research from home and contributing to the group
effort IN CLASS. If a group member does not come prepared, he or she will be required to
complete another task for the day. If a student comes to class unprepared more than twice, he
or she will be reassigned to another task where they will work independently.
**Required Components for your magazine:
1. Creative cover page including Title, Picture(s), and Group Members Names
2. Table of Contents
3. Interview with Progressive era muckraker must include 1 paragraph introducing
background info about the muckraker and 10 original questions and answers
4. Expose includes at least 4 paragraphs worth of information about government efforts that
have been made to create reform on your topic during the Progressive Era (May create a
timeline as a visual aid)
5. Artwork includes 5-6 Political Cartoons and a 1 paragraph explanation for each cartoon
about how it relates to your magazines topic.
6. Editorial evaluates extent of progress made in reforming your topic during the
Progressive Era and includes at least 2 solutions and explanations for reform provided by
the group. Length must be at least 4 well-written paragraphs.
7. Bibliography citing at least 6 sources. Use MLA format. You can use easybib.com to help
with citations.
8. Extra Credit: Create a page dedicated to advertisements, about the authors, or fun facts
about your topic.

Click on: Sign Up Free
In top-right hand corner, Sign Up under Free Single User
Enter your name, email address, and create a password
In upper left hand corner, click on the green + Document button
In upper right hand corner, under Categories; For Print, click on
Newsletters/Magazines
7. Select the Template you want to use.
8. Explore the features and begin setting up the layout for your project.
