Extended Roman is the use of roman numerals to describe the quality of a chord (e.g. major)
and its function within a key (e.g. chord V).
Use the following words to complete the sentences about triads and Extended Roman. Words
may appear more than once!
upper-case
lower case
major 3rd
minor 3rd
diminished 5th
perfect 5th
In root position:
Using Extended Roman, label each of the seven chords from the C major scale. Measuring
each of their intervals may help you.

In root position:
A major triad always has intervals of a minor 3rd and a perfect 5th.
In extended roman, these are represented by upper-case roman
numerals.
A minor triad always has intervals of a minor 3rd and a perfect 5th.
In extended roman, they are represented by lower-case roman
numerals.
