In the Subcontinent, it is one of oldest
weather observations, an economically
important weather pattern over June
through September every year, and the
most anticipated weather event and
unique weather phenomenon. Several
theories have been proposed
explaining the origin, the process, the
strength, the variability, the
distribution and the general vagaries of
the monsoon of the Indian
Subcontinent,MONSOON
but understanding of the
phenomenon and its predictability are
still evolving.

during the hot sub-tropical summers,


the massive landmass of Indian
Peninsula heats up at a different rate
than the surrounding seas resulting in
a pressure gradient from South to
North. This causes flow of moisture
laden winds from sea to land. On
reaching the land these winds rise up
due to the geographical relief, cooling
adiabatically and leading to orographic
rains.

beginning of October, when the
monsoon rains start to fall.
The heat peaks in June with
temperatures in the northern plains
and the west reach 45 C and more. The
monsoons hit the country during this
period too.

Monsoon Flora And Fauna

Monsoon flora

garden.

MONSOON FAUNA

The white-naped woodpecker is a


woodpecker which is a widespread but
scarce breeder in India and Sri Lanka.
This flameback is a species associated
with open forest and scrub with some
trees. It nests in a tree hole, laying one
or two white eggs.

THE WHITE-NAPED WOODPECKER

Lesser Florican rare bird found only in


the Indian subcontinent. Interestingly,
this bird is seen only during the
monsoon, which is its breeding
season, after which it disappears with
its young ones. Not much is known of
its movements for the rest of the year.

country, birders are scouting for Pied
Crested Cuckoo, the harbinger of
monsoon, to correlate its presence
with the annual showers.

people to step outside the house, due to
heavy rains .

cause many disease.
Due to this the conditions of people
becomes worse.
