Pakistani Doctors go on Strike

Abstract:
Young doctors serving the public hospitals of the punjab, who were demanding better
remuneration and working environment. They want permanent hiring with all the benefits.
Punjab Government has started hiring replacement and has already fired some protesting doctors.
This was not the easiest situation where some of the new appointees have joined the protest after
submitting their resignations. Both the doctors and the punjab government currently stand from
their respective positions. The government wants the doctors to resume their duties but the latter
wants a 100% increase in salaries among other demands.

Background:
The administrator of teaching hospitals of Lahore, however claimed that they had ensured the
provision of healthcareservices in emergency and indoor wards without any hiccup. The YDA
members have vowed to continue their strike until the fulfillment of their demand of services
structure in the province. The punjab Health Department has failed to initiate dialigue with
young doctors to resolve the matter of strike and restore normal functioning of hospitals in the
interest of patients.
