D-4-1: Demonstrate basic knowledge of teaching and learning principles and techniques.
In Nursing Foundations 2003, I feel that I
especially learned more client and family
teaching. While Ive learned how this
process works over the past Nursing
Foundations courses, I felt our practice and
increased knowledge in NFDN 2003 really
helped me articulate more meaning and

my NFDN 2003 lab, we went to the NISC
lab to provide care to STAN. My role in
this exercise was to remove the clients
indwelling foley catheter. I was effectively
able to explain to my patient what I was
doing, why, and future things to be
prepared for and expect following the
procedure.
With experience, I was able to answer my
patients questions (coming from my
instructor, speaking for the patient). I was
confident in my knowledge of the care I
was giving and the background
information of my clients condition in

praise in the review portion of the NISC

students for how I had communicated and
taught my client effectively and
professionally.

makes me understanding validated.

I firmly believe that client and family
teaching is highly important in the care my
client will receive and continue to use as
they carry on with their recovery.
Continuing to ensure my knowledge before
entering a situation where Im performing
a skill or need to answer clients questions,
I will always first my confident in my own
abilities and understanding. In working my
way up to the Excellent rating in this
category, I would like to work on my
teaching abilities becoming more seamless.
I will do so by practicing for my CIA,
incorporating more teaching in practice in
lab, performing teaching on family
members, and practicing the
organizational plans with different
scenarios to teach on. In the future I will
always leave my client feeling self-assure
that Ive left them with knowledge on their
situation by having them reiterate back to
me some of the teaching and by
communicating with each other before,
during, and after any procedure/skills
performed as an LPN.
