SWAT Duties
Check

Computers
o For errors.
o Loose screen, mouse and keyboard wires.
o Broken or damaged computer chairs and/or equipment.
o Test, inspect, and monitor computers and printers in various labs throughout NOTL.
Run computer through start-up process to make sure everything works.
Turn the computers back off.

Photocopiers
o For errors (i.e. paper jams)
o Refill paper and/or toner.
o Old toner cartridges are brought to Ricoh Print Centre for recycling.
o Clear forgotten documents out of the photocopier tray.

Printers
o For errors (i.e. paper jams)
o Refill paper and/or toner.
o Old toner cartridges are brought to Ricoh Print Center for recycling.
o Clear accidently printed documents or forgotten documents out of the printer tray.

Help

Students access their Niagara College Blackboard for the 1st time.
o Refer to the Student Quick Start Guide located in the SWAT Binder to set up login for
blackboard and student email.

Students understand the Equitrac print process:


o Upload money to your student card at an Add-Value machine.
(Located outside the library and directly across from the information centre).
o Log into a computer and find your document.
o Select print and print either to lrcblack for black and white copies or lrccolour for colour
copies.
o Walk up to the print release station, select ok, find your student login or document
name.
o Select print and then swipe your card over the white card reader.
o The document will be printed.

Students install wireless printers to their laptops:


o Direct to www.computing.niagaracollege.ca.
o In the search bar type printing.
o Select 1 Printing, then select Wireless Printing
o Scroll down to the very bottom of the page for a list of printers located at each campus.
o Scroll down even further for instructions how to install wireless printers per Operating
System (OS).
o Advise students to complete this process at home, and in the meantime use a school
computer to print.

Maintain

A clean work environment for students in the library and N202:


o Push in all computer chairs.
o Raise all computer screens.
o Push back all keyboards.
o Place mouse on top on the computer tower.
o Pick up all garbage.
o Clean up all spills.
o Wipe down all computer desks, keyboards and mice using a soap solution.
o Clean all the computer screens using screen cleaner.

Report

Computer Issues
o Create an ITS Service Ticket per issue.

o Right hand side, Service Desk Requests

Lost/unknown items
o Bring down to the Security Office Lost and Found on the first floor by the bookstore.

o Direct to the Information Desk, located on the first across from the registration office on

Daily Routines
Morning Shifts Starting at 8:30 A.M.
Please complete the following after clocking into your shift:

Grab the SWAT keys and Photocopier keys located at the circulation desk.

Check Library Hallway Photocopiers.


o I.e. power them up, recycle forgotten paper.

Unlock room N202s library entrance and turn on the lights.

Turn on all the computers in room N202 and the library.


o Remove the mouse from the top of the tower and place on desk.
o Raise all computer screens to the top of stand.
o Place keyboard underneath screen.
o Tuck in all computer chairs.
o Return all non-wheeled chairs to the side of the circulation desk.
o Pick up all garbage and recycling.

Return the photocopier keys back to the circulation desk.

Check the library, library hallway and room N202 printers for the following:
o Garbage or forgotten documents or paper.
o Lost or forgotten items are returned to the circulation desk or the security office located
on the first floor.
o Paper jams.
o Paper levels.
o Tonner levels.
o Delete all work in cue that is OVER AN OUR OLD.

Evening Shifts Ending at 7:30 P.M.


Please complete the following after clocking into your shift:

ACCESSONG YOUR NIAGARA COLLEGE STUDENT EMAIL


`Students enrolled in a Niagara College course are provided with a Niagara
College email account. All email communications from teachers using
Blackboard and all official College correspondence is sent to this account. Your
College email address is in the form:
username@ncstudents.niagaracollege.ca
The password for Blackboard and your student email are different. The first
time you login it is your birth date with the such as 1996Nov19
Example: If john Smith has a College username of jsmith3,
his email address is jsmith3@ncstudents.niagaracollege.ca
How to Access Your College Email Account
Log into Blackboard and click on the link entitled My Web E-Mail under
the Tools menu as show in the figure below or by
visiting portal.microsoftonline.com

MY NIAGARA/BLACKBOARD
My Blackboard is a web-bases portal and learning management system at Niagara
College that is designed to provide centralized access to web applications and enables
instructors to enhance learning by bringing their course material, class discussions,
assignments, and assessments to the web. This quick start guide is designed to get you
started using the Blackboard system.

LOGGING INTO BLACKBOARD


Start your Internet browser and type the following web address:
http://my.niagaracollege.ca and press the Enter key.
Click Login Here in the upper right, then type in your
username and password in the fields provided.
If you are a new user, you will need to retrieve your college
username and password.

Need more help using your college email account?


After youve logged into the email system, you can use the Help and
Community area on the right for additional information.

HAVING PROBLEMS WITH BLACKBOARD?


Niagara College Blackboard Support site: Go to

Once logged in. You will need to click on
your very own My Blackboard page. Now
you can start using the Blackboard system.

PASWORD EXPIRARY REMINDER


For security reasons the password for both your Blackboard account and College
Email account must be changed every 90 days. When you log into Blackboard, a
reminder will appear at the top of your screen within 2 weeks of the password
expiry date.

To view the contents or use the tools available in a course, click the appropriate
button or link in the Course Menu, as shown, on the left-hand side of the
screen.
Content / Documents
Click on the names of folders or learning units to view the contents.
Click on the item attachments to view or download files.
Tests / Surveys / Assignments
Click on the name of the test or survey when you are ready to take it.
Click on the View/Complete link when you are ready to submit an
Assignment (essay, report etc).
Tools
The Announcements area is probably the most commonly used
function in Blackboard. Announcements are posted by instructors to
inform you of important upcoming events and information in your
course. These alone are a good reason to log into Blackboard daily.
The Discussion Board is used to allow communication between all
participants in the class.
You can also use the Email function to send messages to your
instructors and classmates.

Printer Setup Guide


Apple Mac OS X
1. Start by clicking on the Apple icon at the top left of the desktop.
2. Choose System Preferences.

3. Click then Print & Scan icon under the Hardware section.

4. Click the plus + icon above the lock icon to add a new printer.
5. The option Advanced needs to be added to this screen. Well do that in step 6.
6. Right click on the dark grey portion just under the Add Title of this screen. If right click doesnt exist hold
the COMMAND key and left click.

7. Choose Customize Toolbar from the Menu options.

8. With the left mouse button drag the Advanced icon from this window to the top grey bar where you right
clicked to add it to the list of existing icons. Click on Done.

9. Click on the Advanced icon to customize printing options.


a. Type: Windows printer
b. Device: Another Device
c. smb://path to printer. Example: smb://gcprt02.local.niagarac.on.ca/LRCColour
d. Name: The name that the printer will show up as to the user.
e. Location: Will be filled in automatically
Use: Generic PostScript Printer. This should work for all printers but if it doesnt dont hesitate to try
the PCL driver.
10. Click the Add button and then click the OK button.

11. IMPORTANT!! The first job you send to the printer should ask you to login. Fill in the authorization box fields
like this:

Username: NC\BLACKBOARD USERNAME (Example: NC\ jsmith2)


Password: BLACKBOARD PASSWORD (Example: )

Microsoft Windows 7, 8 & XP


1. Press Ctrl + (Windows Key)
2. This opens a run box. Type the desired printer path in the run box.
i.e. \\gcprt02.local.on.ca\LRCBlack

IMPORTANT!! The first job you send to the printer should ask you to login. Fill in the authorization box fields like this:

Schedule
The schedule allows you to view your schedule in several different views. You may also alter the settings
to view departments at different campuses.

Left-Hand Side:
Calendar

Schedule View Options

A mini calendar that allows you can select an individual date


and preview who is working depending on your settings.
This is where you can select what you would like to view on
the schedule such as:

My Schedule.
Schedule Overview.
NOTL Campus & Departments.
Welland Campus & Departments.

Along the Top:


This button brings you to your schedule. From here you may
preview:
My Schedule

How many hours you worked in a week.


How many shifts you worked in a week.
As well as how much you got paid in a week.

There are four different views in which to choose from and


Views & Styles three different styles. They consist of Employee, Visual,
Position, and List. Day, Week, and Month.
Center:

Time Clock
This is where you clock in for your shift and add notes about the day.

Left-Hand Side:

Upload Time Sheet

Clock Into your shift.


View total hours worked that day.
Add notes pertaining to the shift worked.
Remove this Clock In Time.
View upcoming shifts
Arrange times to clock in and clock out on certain days.

The time sheet import tool allows you to upload multiple clock
times at once in both .xls, and .csv format.

Requests
In the Request Tab you may request time off, request a vacation, and request a shift trade.
Overview Request time off.
Vacation Request time off for a vacation.
Trade shifts, pick up shifts, manage shifts, and view shifts you

are trading.

Staff
This is a list of all your fellow employees who are on ShiftPlanning. There are three views In
which to choose from:
A Grid style with medium square photos and employees
Gallery
names listed below
A List style with small square photos and employees names listed to
the right.
You may create your own layout, or move existing rows and
