A Christmas Carol
The Musical Review
A Christmas Carol originally written by Charles Dickens, is given a biblical
twist. The story focuses on Zachariah, an elderly tax collector who is wealthy, selfish,
and stingy. The spirit of the past, the spirit of the present, and the spirit of the future
visit Zachari and reveal to him the error of his ways. In doing so, Zachariah is able to
ask for Gods forgiveness and accept Jesus into his heart. By the end of the musical
Zachariah is no longer a selfish man but a man that has seen Gods grace and love.
The musical was thoughtfully and carefully written, staying factually true to
the bible but still displaying excellent theatrical properties to it. The dinging of the
clock tower introduces the opening scene for the musical along with a narration
from the three spirits. Zachari the main character is introduced at the town of
Bethlehem. From that very moment his actions display the type of person he is,
inconsiderate, selfish, and greedy. As the musical progresses, the three spirits at the
strike of every hour after twelve o clock appear in front of Zachari. Each spirit
through their dialogue reveals to the audience how Zacharis actions can make a
huge difference in the present and the future. The first spirit visits his past and
emphasizes how his past affected his present.
This musical transformed a Christmas classic into a life-changing story of
grace, love, and salvation. Each character, small or large in role, presented an
undeniable truth in their dialogue and performed wonderfully. The set, lights,
music, and costumes created the atmosphere of olden time Bethlehem. This musical
