Hanuman Ji - A favorite and Special Devotee of Lord Ram

Pandit Anil Joshi Ji

Priest, Hindu Mandir of Lake County
Grayslake, IL

Hanuman Ji has super strong powers, valour, and tremendous energy, excellent wisdom and
knowledge of the scriptures even then he is very polite, and down to earth. He has extraordinary
skills of warfare and exhibits astonishing physical strengths but he does not take credit for what
he has done for Lord Ram: whether searching of Ma Janaki as a chosen messenger of Lord Rama
or it was the time of combat when Lakshman needed help to survive. He is very powerful, faster,
most responsive, and goal-oriented God. The following Shloka describes the qualities of
Hanuman Ji as the repository of immense power with a body glittering like a mountain of gold.
Atulit Bal Dhamam, Hem Shayla Badheham,
Dnuj Van Krishanum, Gyany Naam Agraganyam.
Sakal Gun Nidhanam, Vanaranam Dheesham,
Raghupati Priya Bhaktam, Vatjatam Namami.
Hanuman Ji jumps across seven seas in one leap as he is the son of Pavan ('Vayu', the Wind
God). He can fly to any of the destinations in the universe. He does not have ego of his powers.
When Jambuvant Ji made Him remember all His super energies and strengths then He
recollected all of them. Hanuman Ji never shows ego or misuses His amazing powers. As a
minister and messenger of Sugreeva, Hanuman Ji persuaded him to make friendship with Lord
Ram to solve all His problems. He succeeded in his sincere efforts. Hanuman Ji is the symbol
and the epitome of devotion, dedication, and services towards His Lord. He as the chief of the
armies of Shri Ramachandra took a prominent part in searching Ma Janaki and in planning the
fighting against Ravana, the king of Lanka.
When He met Ravana, He told him that His Lord Ram does not want to have war with him but
wants His wife back who is captured through a trick by him. Hanuman Ji offered Ravana a
promise on behalf of Lord Ram that he can live without fear for thousands of years as a king of
Lanka only if he accepts His Lord as his Lord and becomes His devotee like Him. This
illustration makes it clear that a real devotee should be like Hanuman Ji who encourages other
people to become the followers of Lord Ram.

Hanuman Ji - A favorite and Special Devotee of Lord Ram

According to Hanuman Ji, Dharma means to do good thing to others. Hanuman Ji tells Vibhishan
that it is not enough to just chant the Lords name but we should also do the Lords karma (work)
and thereby spread His vibhuti (glories) in the world. Hanuman Ji served as Vibhishans guru
who guided him to surrender and serve Lord Ram. This advice of Hanuman Ji gave Vibhishan
greater strength in his spiritual practices and to live his spiritual life uncompromisingly.
Vibhishan starts following the right path of Dharma in the same way as Lord Shri Ram.
Hanuman Ji demonstrated what he said to Vibhishan that devotee should do his Lords work.
During the intense war against Ravana, Lord Rama got news that his beloved brother, Lakshman
had fainted. Hanuman Ji hopped at the chance once again and readily came forward to rescue the
brother of His Lord. Hanuman Ji, a great leader of the monkeys brought the Sanjeevini Parvat
when asked by the Master of Medicine, Sukhan to save Lakshman's life. On the other hand, with
the help of Vibhishan, Hanuman Ji helped restore Ma Janaki back to Shri Rama. In His venture,
he always followed the instructions given by Lord Rama with full devotion. Therefore, in Sundar
Khand, Lord Ram Himself praises Hanuman Ji courage, power and faithfulness, and selfless
service by saying, "O mighty hero I cannot repay your debt." After listening to this praise,
Hanuman Ji fell at the feet of Lord Ram and said humbly, I did all this due to your blessings and
protection provided to me. Hanuman Ji symbolizes the qualities of an ideal devotee of Lord
Ram.
The key qualities of a devotee includes humbleness, religiousness, shunning of all kinds of
power ego, following and preserving Dharma and Satya Marg, showing love to God and to all
His creations by Manasa, Vacha, and Karmana, avoiding differences, discriminations, and
perceptions among religions, persons, and creatures, paying respect to elders, Sages, and
religious authorities, and not expecting rewards for his services. Such qualities in Hanuman Ji
made Him a special and favourite devotee of Lord Ram.
Hanuman Ji is popular among all age groups in the form of Hanuman Chalisa. He is the most
revered deities amongst the Hindu Gods. He is believed to be the 11th Rudra Roopa of Lord
Shiva and foremost devotee of Lord Shri Ram. He is a powerful God in all Yugas. In Satya Yuga
he was in the form of Shiv, in Treta Yuga He existed as Hanumaan, in Dwapar Yuga, He was
present in the flag of Arjuns Rath at the time of Kurukshetra War to help Arjun and protect
Pandavas as per Lord Krishnas instructions. In Kali Yuga, he is prevailing in the form of
Sankata Mochana power which removes all hurdles. Hanuman Ji makes innumerable miracles
as he obtained all Vedic knowledge from His Guru Lord Surya (Sun God). So, Hanuman Ji is
known by different names. He is popularly known as Sankata Mochana (reliever of sorrows).
He removes all the obstacles or problems whether it is spiritual, physical, fiscal, or educational
that comes in the way of His devotees to have success in their lives.
By performing Puja of Hanuman Ji His devotees get double bonus blessings of Lord Ram
Parivar and Lord Shiva whereas by worshiping Ganesh, you get blessings of Shiv Parivar, by
adoring Radha you get benediction of Krishna, by revering Lakshmi, you get sacred signs of
Lord Vishnu. His blessings always influence or fulfill His devotees desires quickly and most
rapidly. He is there wherever Lord Ram is there as said in this Shloka.

We all bow down to Hanuman Ji, who is the slayer of demons, and who is present with head
bowed and eyes full of flowing tears wherever the fame of Lord Ram is sung.
Hanuman Ji is the votary and devotee of Lord Rama. He lived and served Lord Rama Parivar. He
presents Himself as a dedicated devotee of Lord Ram first and as God later. A person should try
to have all or some of the qualities of a real devotee like Hanuman Ji and render selfless services
to humanity and become a favorite and special devotee of the Lord.
