Discussion

The expected results were different compared to actual results. The expected results were
not that different from the actual results. It was expected for the catalase to produce more
bubbles, but it did not. The results that were received were probably due to some mistakes or
some differences in some of the materials used during the lab.
There were a few experimental errors when doing the lab. Some beakers were small and
big so that had different surface areas. There was also an error in calculation in the first
procedure of the experiment that was done. The beaker that was boiled was set aside for too
long, so it cooled to a lower temperature before the test tube was put in. The shape of the potato
sample may have affected the results too.
The lab could be improved through a few ways. Be sure to use beakers with a small
surface area that are the same size to get accurate results. Also, be sure to use a ruler with the
right measurements.
The results showed how catalase reacts with hydrogen peroxide and causing a chemical
reaction, thus showing how enzymes worked. The purpose of the lab was to understand how
enzymes work. The purpose of the lab was achieved, as when the catalase reacted with the
hydrogen peroxide, it created bubbles, which were oxygen and it made water, which is a
chemical reaction, and showing how catalase, an enzyme, works.
The results that were received in our experiment were pretty similar to those of others, so
they were accurate. There was a mistake in the first trial of the first procedure, other than that,
everything is about the same. Results on our 2nd procedure were similar to one groups data and
different compared to another group, as their data said that their height of reactions were higher.
Unfortunately the data in our 3rd procedure could only be compared once since it was only tested
once, but it was similar to another group.
