Since 1981 1.7 million people in the
U.S. are estimated to have been
infected with HIV.
1 in 5 of those infected are unaware.
MSM (Men who have sex with men )
accounted for 61% of all new HIV
infections in the U.S. in 2009.
Over 619,000 with HIV have already
died since the epidemic began.
To be tested for HIV you usually give a sample of blood, urine or a swab of
fluids from your mouth.
It is recommended that if you are sexually active or have multiple partners you
should be tested every 6 months.
There is no cure for HIV. Antiretroviral therapy can reduce the presence of the
virus in the body, but can not eliminate it.
