[Bononein, bem in Modena, was Both an accomplished celist and prolific and underrated composer. He studied call im
Bologna from 1678 with his finer Giovanni Maria Bonocini (1642-1678) and later Giovanni Paolo Colonna (1637-1695).
From 1687, he was 2 member ofthe Accademia Filarmonica, a musician at San Petronio (composing two Lenten
loratoios in 1687 and 1689). He also served as maestro di cappella at San Giovanni (Mone) in 1689 as well as working
in Rome (1711-1719), Vienna (1698, 1736-1747), Paris (1719, 1731, 1733), Lisbon (1735), London (1720-1737; 1720-
11722. composer for the Royal Academy of Music) where his works rivaled the popula of Handel. Among his most
important operas are Astarto (1720, London), Muzio Scevola (1721, London), itrionto di Camila (Naples, 1696),
Griselda (1722, London), and the Cantata para a non dar fede. In 1728, he fell from public grace aftr falsely claiming
‘to have composed "I! una siepe ombrosa" which had actually been written by Antonio Lott (1667-1740). He died
impoverished in Vienna. OF his solo works for trumpet, | am aware of four including two for two trumpets; also there is
the tenor arta with solo trumpet "Por la gloria adorav? from Griselda
