How to use this booklet

You will need to complete every page of this booklet, and all sections / questions
required.
Assessment criteria for Distinction grade;
LO2
Plans will show a full consideration of movement and continuity, perspective, point of view,
transitions and special effects.
Precise and workable planning of timing and synchronisation to a soundtrack will be
produced. It will be clear at this stage, from the documentation, what the finished piece will
look and sound like.
Learners will follow industry conventions and terminology used in storyboard production
correctly.
Plans for the construction of models, sets and props will be realistic and clear.
Drawings, script and storyboard will all show a creative interpretation of the idea.

LO3:
The documentation linked to the production will be full and detailed and there will be
evidence that the production management and scheduling of the project has been effective
and carried out in a professional manner. The techniques used in the production of the work
are likely to be related to an understanding of current trends in the industry.

Both LO2 and LO3

In all practical activity learners will be capable of working autonomously and effectively. They
will work on their own initiative, will not need constant support or supervision, will give the
work their full commitment, work positively and cooperatively with others, and meet
deadlines. In other words, they will have the kind of self-management skills that would be
expected of them in a professional context. Note also that this criterion should not be taken
to mean that learners do not seek advice or that they work without discussing things with
their tutor, but rather that they are not dependent upon the support of others and that when
they take advice they weigh it carefully for themselves.

Treatment
Red Bull (Flying Man)
This is what I am planning on having in my storyline of the advert. First of all there is a Blue
TAC Man who is walking along a table then sees a drop of red bull on the surface. The
camera then changes angles and moves to a (Widescreen) which shows a massive can of
Red Bull next to it. The Blue Tac man hear a womens scream (Long Shot) and shows his
surprised reaction (Close Up).

The camera then shows a women blue TAC figures who is about to get hit by a car (Wide
Shot). The man then suddenly grows wings and flies in front of the women (Mid-Shot) and
stops the car with just a touch of his hand (Close Up). The women is flatted (Close Up), he
then flies off straight up and flies straight into a cupboard (Low Angle) and then falls back
down to the women (Over Shoulder). She looks at him quite surprised (Low Angle).
Then while he is laying on the floor a car comes from nowhere and runs over him flattening
him with tyre marks (Wide Shot). The blue TAC man then gets up slowly with the women
being very surprised. The blue TAC man makes a humming noise and walks off slowly with
the tyre marks still in him (Wide Shot).
The camera then shows an (Over shoulder shot) of the women showing the man walking
away in the distance then a huge can of red bull lands right next to him and pushes him off
the edge of the surface (High Angle). I will then have a caption at the end come up saying
Red Bull keep on your Guard (Voice Over) with a sliver and blue background with red
writing, which is the red bull colours. The location which all the filming will take place in the
kitchen on the table and kitchen surfaces.

How will you meet the requirements of your brief?

I will first make sure that I understand the brief and read it a few times. Once I have
understood my Task I will decided on my idea using the preproduction booklet. All
the equipment that I will use I can get from my house for example Camcorder, Blue
Tac. I will also make sure that my advert is bang on 30 seconds as that is the time
slot of a TV advertisement.

Risk assessment: Are there any health and safety issues you may encounter?
There are a small amount of Risks that I should watch out for example I will be doing
all the filming in a kitchen so sharp objects could be a risk. To avoid these risks I
must make sure that all sharp objects must be removed from sight incase injury.

Discuss any legal issues you may face. Eg; sound, plagiarism, age restrictions
I should come across any legal issues. For example all the sounds I will be using is
from a royalty free music website, I have used this to avoid any copyright and also to
save time not asking the producers. I dont really have to worry about the age ratings
for example there is no graphic images as it is all blue Tac and there also is no bad
language used. I have also searched around with red bull adverts and there is no

way it could be a slight copyright of another advert.

Use of possible formats

Circle which of the following formats your animation will take;
Stop-frame techniques
Time lapse photography
Plasticine animation
Claymation
Using found objects
Modelling
Puppetry
Combined formats

Why are you using that particular format?

I have decided to use Plasticine Animation as the models I will create can be bending and
also be squashed. An example is when I want the car to come and run over the blue TAC
man I want it to leave tire tracks in him, I wouldnt be able to do this if I have a wooden
model.

What are the different possibilities you could explore using this format?
As I am using Blue Tac I could of used a number of different materials for example plasticine
however I found that the amount that I would need would become quite expensive and also
that it doesnt hold as strong as blue Tac. I have also chosen the modelling format as in stop
motion animation modelling is the most common however computer animation is becoming
more and more popular. I have done this research by watching previous animations and
decided which would be the cheapest and best for me to make.

What are the limitations of using this format? (i.e what problems/ obstacles might you
have?)
The great thing about using blue TAC is that there isnt much limitations apart from one. The
only problem I have encounter is that Blue Tac is only one color and I wouldnt be able to
change it easily. One other small problem is that the models I would need will take quite long
to make and could slow the production process down if any damaged is caused to them.

What imaginative or inventive animations have you seen which use this format?
Add in links and screen shots of three examples of animations using this format.

Blue Tac Animation

I have watched this animation and included it because I loved when the hole was should into
the blue TAC figure. Although it doesnt advertise anything it has given me ideas and also
possibilities.

Blue Tac Animation Experimenting

I have decided to watch and included this Animation as from watching it has given me so
many ideas for example including tire marks in my animation on my blue TAC figure then
getting back up and walking.

Red Bull Gives You Wings Advert 2013

From watching this advert I can see an professional made red bull advert which gives me an
idea of what sounds, colors and the advents that should happen in my advert, for example
using someone week then wants they have a bit of red bull they turn strong and fast.

Subject
What will the subject of your animation be?
The Aim of my animation is mainly to prove a point that if you drink red bull you gain wings
and makes you become powerful and have very strong reaction. However I have also
decided to include a bit of comedy which it keeps the audience a bit more entertained. I have
done this from when he flies up and hits the cupboard then falls down and gets run over.

Storyline
Describe the storyline of your animation. What events will happen to your characters?
Blue TAC man is Depressed and fed up with life he finds a drop of red bull on a table surface
with a huge can of red bull next to it. The man sips the liquid then suddenly grows wings and
flies around saving people a women from a car. He then flies upwards to save his next victim
but then hits a cupboard and falls back down to the floor, which another car comes and runs
over him leaving tire marks on him. He gets up and walk off near the edge of the table as a
huge can of red bull lands next to him and knocks him off the edge.

Characters
What characters will be in your animation?
I have two character in my animation however they dont have any names as during the
animation there is no proper language used only humming and groaning. The sound effects I
use do most of the talking. However the main character which is the blue TAC man dose
most of the sound effects. The blue TAC women only screams when the car is coming
towards her.

What will they be made of?

All of the characters in this animation will be made from blue TAC, however the car is made
from strong plastic.

Movement of characters

How are you going to make your characters move?

I am going to use stop Motion to make my characters move for example, I will move the
model very slightly take a picture keeping the camera still, then move the model and take a
picture. I will repeat this process till all the action and movement of the models is complete. I
estimate around 20 Photos to a Second.

What is the purpose of an armature?

An armature is used to strengthen a model as this acts as a base normally made from thin
metal wire. This wire allows the model to bend and support itself without moving and ruining
the shot.

Will you use them for your characters?

I wont be using an armature as I have found and experimented that my models made from
blue TAC dont move unless I move it. This maybe because the amount of Blue TAC I use to
support it.

Mood board
Create a mood board showing what look your animation will have. Add images showing
ideas of mise-en-scene, characters, costumes and colours that will be present in the

Audio and Soundtrack

What audio will you have for your animation?

Complete the sound list, detailing what sounds you will use, where you will source them,
what equipment you will need to record them and when you will use them in your animation.
You will need to design your own soundtrack. You cannot use copyrighted music, and it
must be more than simply adding a track.

What actions will need sound effects?

Think of the scenes in your animation. Each scene should have different sounds/music to
give information about the mood / emotions of the characters.
Ending Music Swedish House Mafia Save The World Source: From YouTube. Email
will be sent to company asking for permission.

How will you ensure that your animation will suit your chosen audience?
I have made it sort of like a short film where a normal man turns into an action packed
storyline with cars and super powers. I have also included a little bit of comedy to make the
audience smile and to keep them interested in the advert. I have decided to show the brand
at the beginning and end as I didnt want to bore them with just logos and also it could
interrupt the storyline.

How will they physically watch your animation? (i.e. in an exhibition format, on screen,
projection, online?)

My animation with occur on a TV screen or a computer screen online. The animation will go
in between Shows or films in the time slots of 30 seconds. The audience can also see the
advert in between music videos etc. on YouTube.
