to measure your success?
Why do you think reading would be a good
instructional focus for the entire school?

Raymond-Instructional Focus: To use

instructional technologies as a force

multiplier to leverage literacy instruction to
significantly impact student reading ability.
Mary Pat- (Significantly) Measuring teacher
growth as well as student growth: Measuring
teacher levels with the SAMR model-- Moving
teachers past substitution (at 70% as per the
ETP)
Students collaboration to give feedback and
support to one another.
Preparing students for college and career
readiness.

Question 3: Describe ways in which you plan to gain community and stakeholder buy-in.
Parent Videos- Mrs. Burleson

ChrisAshley- Facebook (two way support), Twitter,

setting up mentorships, HCC STEM students
Exhibition- over 1,000 people yearly
Google Hangouts, skyping with leaders in
subject area fields.

Career focus nights and guest speakers

Question 4: We believe that every successful initiative is rooted in strong leadership. Share
with us the strengths you see in your administrative and teacher leadership that you feel
would support your work.
Ashley- bringing in Shawna Sunday, going to
experts in the building, At the 1323 we leave
our egos at the door. As a new teacher- I have
found that teachers here are ALWAYS willing to
help.
ChrisQuestion 5: We believe that in order for a Vanguard School to be successful, there must be a
culture of safe risk-taking, willingness to support one another to achieve collective goals,
(Were all in this together mindset), and celebration present. Share with us what this looks
like in your school.
Why is it important to take risks?

Gina-supportive staff,have to take risks to grow.

Goal is for kids to learn and learn it well.Share
in successes and help build confidence. Cluster
teaching. Have specialists.
Mary Pat- Action research - having the end goal
in mind, but taking the risk to TRY and
collecting data to support. Working as teams to
do this. Peer Coaching holding e other
accountable and coaching at the same time).
