Racism Has Come a Long Way
Racism has always been an issue in society. Racism has come a long way from
years ago. It all began when black people were discriminated and turned into slaves.
After that it has been a big problem in society. Although racism has made a dramatic
change, it still has been going on and has never stopped. Not only were black people
discriminated but other people from different races. For example Jewish people were
dramatically discriminated in World War II.
Throughout World War II, Jewish people were one of the largest groups that were
being discriminated by the Nazis. The only reason why a lot of Jewish people were
discriminated was because a lot of the Jews didnt fit under Adolf Hitlers Aryan race.
The Aryan race was blue eyes, light skinned and tall. Since many Jews didnt qualify
under Hitlers race they were discriminated and even killed. Hitler came up with an idea
of getting rid of all the Jews by sending them to concentration camps and killing them
there when in reality he was lying to society and showing most people that the Jewish
people were living a nice way when in reality they were being forced to work and even
killed in gas chambers.
A political cartoon found shows how an old man is dropped off from a train. You
can see how this old man looks devastated and confused because it seems like he doesnt
know what is going on. This image shows how throughout World War II many Jewish

people were being forced onto trains and dropped off at concentration camps. This
picture definitely shows that this elderly man was sent out to a concentration camp. The
poor old and fragile man looks sad deep down, but it looks like he is trying so hard just to
hold on that sadness. This is an example of how Jewish people were discriminated just
because of their religious beliefs. Not only were they discriminated but they were banned
out of many things, for example, they were banned out of work, public parks, libraries
and school. This shows racial discrimination because they were not like Hitlers ideal
race of blue eyes and light skinned. The worst part of being banned from things was that
thousands of Jews were obligated and sent out to concentration camps and many of those
were even killed in gas chambers. The Nazis did not care how many Jews had died all
they cared about was that their race could have been superior than any other race in the
country. The image sends out a message of how many Jews were judged by their race and
religious beliefs and they way they looked.
In the text Black Men and Public Spaces by Brent Staples, it also shows how
many people were prejudice toward black people. On less traveled streets after dark, I
grew accustomed to but never comfortable with people who crossed to the other side of
the street rather than pass me, portrays an example of how people were prejudice
towards a black men, he was being discriminated because of his skin color. He was being
discriminated because people believed as if he was a thief or a bad person that can cause
harm when in reality he was a simple nice and respectful person just walking down the
street. Just because he was black, people assumed negatives opinions about him.
Hammering down the door knobs, demonstrates that many people felt fear coming as
they saw a black male because they thought they were going to get robbed or something.

As soon as they saw a black male they automatically thought of fear but those people
were just being prejudice because they wouldnt know whom those black people were
until they have met them. This text shows how people were being racist towards the black
race.
Both the text and image illustrate examples of racism. They both bring out a
message that racism is not good and being prejudice is judging people when they dont
really know anything about them. Being prejudice is bad as being racist. Racism has been
a dramatic problem in society in which people seek to slowly change.
