Shelby Gruber (a student from Mount Union) completed her preclinical experience in my second grade classroom during the months of September, October, and November 2014. She was part of a two-teacher team (a regular classroom teacher and an intervention specialist) with 23 students (including several students with learning disabilities). While in my classroom, Ms. Gruber observed my teachings, assisted in daily tasks, and cotaught with me. She also planned and implemented several math and reading lessons that involved her working with students in whole group, small group, and individual settings. During this time, she demonstrated a great awareness of students different abilities and learning needs; she was able to effectively plan and teach learning activities that were differentiated in order to meet the varied needs of the students. Her lessons were very thoroughly prepared and implemented. She was successful in monitoring student progress and adjusting plans accordingly. Overall, Ms. Gruber possesses a very positive and enthusiastic personality that allows her to easily collaborate and build great rapport with both students and school staff. She is very professional in the school setting and eagerly accepts teaching responsibilities. She was a huge asset to my classroom the past few months, and I look forward to working with her during her student teaching experience for the second half of the school year! Sincerely, Kelsie Markijohn
