Classroom Management Plan

Statement of Purpose
Our classroom is a safe place where discourse and collaboration are
celebrated. In our classroom, readers and writers are expected to develop
skills to articulate their ideas through writing, gradually moving from apathy
to activism. All learners will experience various outlets for language and will
build relationships with other readers and writers. Our classroom promotes
the growth of writing, reading, and speaking skills so students are better
prepared for life outside of the classroom.
Rules
Be kind.
Be respectful.
Be prepared.
Be safe.
Procedures
Be an active member of the learning community by always arriving with an
independent reading book and writers notebook accompanied with a writing
utensil.
Consequences
All learners are valuable members of the learning community. When students
adhere to the rules and procedures, they enhance the overall learning
community. Failure to adhere to the rules will result in a case-by-case
evaluation to be determined by the teacher.

Crisis Plan
Purpose: To prepare for any unplanned circumstance, the crisis plan will make
it easier to gain control of the situation and reduce the anxiety of potential
crises.
Behavioral Crisis Plan
1. Ask the crisis student to step outside of the classroom and wait for
further instructions. If multiple students are involved, separate them
immediately.
2. Instruct the rest of the class to transition to workshop time and begin
independently working.
3. Step outside of the classroom to privately speak with the student(s),
inquiring about the reason for their actions. Provide student(s) with
options: allow 60 seconds to either return to the classroom or to go to
the office with a crisis behavior card.
4. Notify parents and/or school administration of the incident.
5. Follow up with the student(s).

Medical Crisis Plan

1. Immediately contact nurse via school communication system or send
students to retrieve the nurse.
2. Give the crisis student space by moving students, desks, chairs, tables,
etc.
3. Provide care to crisis student if possible.
4. Follow up with the crisis student, the class, and the nurse.
