Essential Objectives
Writing 6.1 - Write arguments to support claims with
clear reasons and relevant evidence.
Writing 6.2 - Write informative/explanatory texts to
examine and convey complex ideas and information
clearly and accurately through the effective selection,
organization, and analysis of content
Writing 6.5 - With some guidance and support from
peers and adults, develop and strengthen writing as
needed by revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new
approach.
Writing 6.7 - Conduct short research projects to
answer a question, drawing on several sources and
refocusing the inquiry when appropriate.
Writing 6.10 - Write routinely over extended time
frames (time for research, reflection, and revision)and
shorter time frames (a single sitting or a day or two)
for a range of discipline-specific tasks, purposes, and
audiences.
Reading Informational/ Reading Literature 6.1 - Cite

Reading Informational/ Reading Literature 6.10 - By
the end of the year, read and comprehend literary
nonfiction in the grades 6-8 text complexity band
proficiently, with scaffolding as needed at the high end
of the range.
Speaking and Listening 6.1 - Engage effectively in a
range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in
groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on
grade 6 topics and texts, building on others' ideas and
expressing their own clearly.
Language 6.1 - Demonstrate command of the
conventions of standard English grammar and usage
when writing or speaking.
Tutoring
Tutoring will be offered beginning in
September on Monday and Tuesday mornings
from 7:30-7:50, as well as Thursday afternoons
from 3:00-4:00. Sessions will be focused on
specific skills needed to be successful in the
everyday classroom. Invitations to tutoring will
be sent out by the end of August. If you would
like your child to participate, please contact
Mrs. McKinley or Mrs. Janovec.
Data Notebooks
Students will have their own data
notebook, which will be a place to monitor
their learning growth. In ELA, students will
track their STAR & A.R. results, essential
objectives both formal and self-assessed,
vocabulary
gained,
Acuity
scores,
and monthly character traits.
