Classroom Behavior Plan

Standards Based Grading

What is it?
"This type of grading system measures your
student's mastery of essential learning
objectives. The goal is to provide the teacher,
students, and parents with an accurate picture
of each student's individual levels of learning." Marzano
Why?
"The goal of the standards-based grading
system is to report more accurate, consistent,
and meaningful information about a student's
level of learning.
What does it look like?
"In the standards-based grading system, grades
are reported using a 4 point scale. The students
are provided a rubric scoring guide that shows
them what is expected at each level on the 4
point scale." - Marzano

teach others.

Readers and Writers

In ELA Workshop
this year students will be
participating in reading and writing
workshops. The workshop model gives
power to the student for their own growth.
Each student will meet periodically with the
teacher in a conference as well as meeting
with their reading and writing groups for
guidance. Each conference will have two
goals one set by the student and one teacher
directed.

Tutoring
Tutoring will be offered beginning in
September on Monday and Tuesday mornings
from 7:30-7:50, as well as Thursday afternoons
from 3:00-4:00. Sessions will be focused on
specific skills needed to be successful in the
everyday classroom. Invitations to tutoring will
be sent out by the end of August. If you would
like your child to participate, please contact
Mrs. McKinley or Mrs. Janovec.

Data Notebooks
Students will have their own data
notebook, which will be a place to monitor
their learning growth. In ELA, students will
track their STAR & A.R. results, essential
objectives both formal and self-assessed,
vocabulary
gained,
Acuity
scores,
and monthly character traits.

Be on the lookout for opportunities

to get involved throughout the
school year.
