Warm up
Cotton Eyed Joe
1 time - 4 minutes

The Cotton Eyed Joe will be their warm up for the day. I will
tell them to get right in their lines for Cotton Eyed Joe - but
how we finished yesterday so that the students who did not
get a turn to go down the middle will have a turn today.

Explanation of
Activity
5 minutes

I will have students sit in the circle in the middle. I will

explain to them that they are going to be making up their
own dances to the song What Did the Fox Say?. We will
go over some moves that they could include in their dance.
I will explain that they need at least 6 moves in their dance.
Then I will explain to them that they will be listening to the
beginning of the song and thinking about what moves they
may want to try in their groups. Then I will give them their
groups and they can break off into them.

Time/Activity
Creating Dances

What are the teachers/students doing?

Students will spend the remainder of class creating their
dances with their group. This will move into tomorrows
class as well.

Assessment: I will assess students participation and ability to select moves and do them to the
best of their ability. I will assess this by watching students making up their dance, perform the
dance throughout, and performing at they end.
Modification: I will get the two students to try the dance again this class. If they are not doing
the dances, I will give them the alternative sheet and they can go do the exercises on the side.
This is not meant to be a fun alternative so the exercises will stay the same throughout the whole
unit of dance. If they would like to change it up, they can come join the dance lesson. This is
simply to get these students to start moving and being active.
Each day I ask for at least 3 moves from the kids who refuse to do the dance. Then they can go
do the exercises on the sheet.
Extra Activity: I will give them as much time as possible to create and do their dances.
