characters traits are and give examples of character traits in themselves and their
classmates. Students are then given tablets and instructed to use the website
HYPERLINK "https://bubbl.us/mindmap" https://bubbl.us/mindmap to create concepts
maps using the following instructions.
Think about a character from one of the novels we have read in class.
List three character traits of the character that you chose

Students will be put in groups of four. Each group will be assigned to four themes from
the novel that we are currently studying. Each group will be given handouts that track

how the particular theme develops throughout the novel. The students will be given a
mini lesson on how to create a presentation in prezi.com. Students will be charged with
the task of creating a presentation on prezi.com using a timeline template, showing how
the theme develops throughout the novel.

Each group will provide a summary of the text. One group member will be responsible
for synthesizing their group members thoughts on the novel to create the summary

ELACC8RL3 Key Ideas and Details: Analyze how particular lines of dialogue or
incidents in a story or drama propel the action, reveal aspects of a character, or
provoke a decision.
HYPERLINK "https://www.georgiastandards.org/Common-Core/Documents/LargePrint-ELA-CCGPS-Grade-8.pdf" https://www.georgiastandards.org/CommonCore/Documents/Large-Print-ELA-CCGPS-Grade-8.pdf

Students will be put in groups of four and two groups will be given excerpts from the
novel we are reading which includes conversation dialogues among characters in the
novel. Two groups will be given excerpts from the novel, which contain key incidents.

Each group will be given the discussion question How does this key incident or
dialogue lead to a decision, or sparks a response, or shows a character trait of character in
the novel?

Within their groups, the students can locate the particular dialogue or incident in the
novel to respond to the prompt. After the students have successfully responded to the
prompts in their respective groups each group is asked to do a demonstration of how one
action can lead to a reaction or how something someone says can reveal a character trait.

A you tube video will be shown to the class pertaining to a reaction that stems from an
incident for example- the coming of the Europeans to North America.

Students will then have to think of concepts in their other subject areas that cause
reactions based on an incident in history, science, social studies or any other subject area.
The students will record these examples in their groups.
