PROCEDURE
Introduction ( 10 min.):
Hook/Attention Grabber: Have the instruction of the class activity on the smart board
Assessment of Prior Knowledge: what is consensus decision making?
Expectations for Learning and Behaviour: Siting quietly in desks, raise hand when wanting to speak,
cooperation during activity
Advance Organizer/Agenda: focusing on the social structure and decision making process in the classes to come
Transition to Body: Today we will be doing an activity where we use the consensus decision model

Body (40 min.):

Learning Activity #1: after the attention grabber, have all of the students line up at the front of the class. There are
six groups of desks, which will be turned into six group startions for each part of the decision making process. I will put
paper labels on the desk and assign students to each desk area as well. Students will be paired up and assigned a certain
label (seneca, mohawl, etc)
- for those students who are making the decision and the rest waiting, students will be working on their title pages until
the decision gets passed onto them. (two activities going on at the same time)
Assessments/Differentiation: students making a decision on a question and passing it onto the next step

Learning Activity #2: Students will first have to think of advantages / disadvantages of the decision making process
by writing them on the board then we will look at the handout wit the answers.

Assessments/Differentiation: students will provide answers during the discusion. studnts will be handed a sheet with the
advantages and disadvantage.

Closure ( 10 min.):
Consolidation/Assessment of Learning: discus how the decision making model benefited the society
Feedback From Students: students name one thing that went well or was difficult during the activity
Feedback To Students: if students are having difficulty providing an exit slip, give them a hint
Transition To Next Lesson: tomorrow we will carry on with the Iroquois society and structure of decision making

- volunteer activities to be undertaken as a class
