3. SWBAT sort and match beginning and final g sounds. SWBAT blend and
decode regularly spelled words with hard and soft sounds for g. SWBAT identify
the hard g and soft g sounds in words.
4. Standard:
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.L.2.1
Demonstrate command of the conventions of Standard English grammar and usage when writing
or speaking.
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.2.3a
Distinguish long and short vowels when reading regularly spelled one-syllable words.
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.2.3b
Know spelling-sound correspondences for additional common vowel teams.
5. Materials:
a. Hard/Soft g online resources and online activity:

b. Hard/Soft g worksheet
6. Prior Knowledge:
a. Students have learned about hard/soft c in a similar format. I will talk
about this fact and ask the class. The class has been learning similar
phonics lessons for the last couple weeks, so they will be familiar with this
format.
7. Objectives:
a. The objectives relate to words both within our online assessment and the
worksheet.

SWBAT sort and match beginning and final g sounds.


1. I will assess this through the online assessment and
worksheet. I will also asses this through questions I will ask
the classroom during lesson.

ii.

SWBAT blend and decode regularly spelled words with hard and
soft sounds for g.
1. We will assess this through the online assessment and
questions I will ask students during lesson.

iii.

SWBAT identify the hard g and soft g sounds in words.


1. I will assess this through the worksheet.

8. Hook:
a. I will read an online book to the class that relates hard/soft g to twin
brother and sister. The book is a great resource for teaching hard/soft g in
a fun way. The online book is the base of my lesson and will help the
students throughout the lesson.
9. Lesson Activities:
a. While Reading online book:
i.

Children will be seated at their desks and I will have the class as a
whole say some example words out loud. I will go over key facts
from the book at the end and make sure every student
comprehends the topic.

b. Online Activity:
i.

I will choose students from the name cup to come up to the board
to choose an answer. We will check it as a class and go on to the
next question. I am going to use the name cup to keep it as fair
as possible.

c. Worksheet
i.

We will go over directions as a class on worksheet then I will do an


example for the class. The students will then complete the
worksheet at their tables. I will go over the work sheet as a class

over the projector as a class. I will use the name cup again to
continue the fairness of the lesson.
10. Closure:
a. To end the lesson, I will go over one more time about the rules of hard/soft
g. I will ask a few students what they learned today and have the students
put their papers away. I will encourage the students to go over the rules at
home.
