Mrs. Wertz-Orbaugh
UWRIT 1103-007
10/15/14
Throughout the course of the semester so far, we have gone through many different
genres of writing. These genres include writing that we have analyzed in class as well as
composed for work at home. Reflection writing is a big part of what Mrs. Wertz-Orbaugh
preaches through her teaching because it puts the focus on us to produce something better
than a generic answer. Reflection writing has been the toughest to me, because
throughout grade school I was never really asked how I thought about the text. My
teachers would always preach about the development of the story and never really focus
on how we felt about the text, which has made reflections a challenge. We have also
engaged in a small amount of poetry writing with analyzing Bashert as well as creating our
own version of the poem Where Im From. I really enjoyed this section of class because
poetry is one of my favorite types of literature and when we got to recreate Where Im From
I took full advantage of the opportunity. Multimodal writing is another type of writing we
have gotten to engage in through the multimodal group project. This was a fun writing
experience because we got to work with a group of people that were all interested in the
same topic. Multimodal writing was also the newest type of writing I have experienced
which made the experience more fun. The fact that we were allowed to write through a
social media app really speaks for how far along the world has come with technology and
the tolerance of multimedia writing. These are the types of writing that we have had the
opportunity to analyze and compose so far this year. Though I do have my favorites and
my enemies, all of these genres are important to me as well as this class.
