  • 5. What is a monosaccharide? Disaccharide? Polysaccharide?

A monosaccharide is something we call simply sugar, and is any class of

different variations of sugar. Disaccharide is two-units of sugar and polysaccharide is many units of sugar.

  • 6. Draw a glucose molecule.

  • 7. What is the difference between glucose, fructose, sucrose and lactose? What are they found in? What are their chemical formulas? What do their molecules look like (you can either draw each one, or describe them in words)?

Glucose: sugar that is an important energy source in an individuals living organ is has in which is a compound of many carbohydrates. glucose contains in a syrup and including fructose is a sugar called hexaose that is (C6H1206) found in honey and or fruit. Fructose formula is (C6H1206). Sucrose is a compound that is a compound to cane or beet sugar. Lactose is a sugar that is found in milk. It is disaccharide that contains glucose Lactose formula is C12H2201).

  • 8. What is an isomer?

An isomer are compounds which are the same formula but the only thing about it is that atoms are changed around in the order.

  • 9. What does the body use glucose for? What happens to the human body f glucose levels are off?

Glucose is the source of energy. For all our bodies, especially the brain. The glucose is also the source of energy for ones muscles in which is backed up other sources if it happens to run out. Fat is a storage depot as backup for when glucose happens to run out.

  • 10. What other compounds are “sweet” but are unfit for human consumption? Why?

Methanol is poisonous and can cause blindness because it is absorbed through the skin, methanol is unit for use as rubbing alcohol.

  • 11. List the artificial sweeteners discussed in the reading. Tell me a bit about each.

Glucose- (Artifical the most sweeter) sugar in a humans metabolism. Glucose is also known as dextrose. It serves as an energy source to energy source plants and animals or both. Fructose- (Artifical sweeter) is a sugar, the compound is often known as table sugar, cane sugar and or beet sugar or just sugar.
