Communicative English Curriculum for Haitian Learners
2014
St. Andres Episcopal School in Hinche, Haiti
Conducted a needs assessment for a beginning English curriculum for the 6th grade.
Created a 27 week course based on the needs assessment findings: topics included
learning training, reflective learning, and situations Haitian English speakers will likely
use English. Activities were communicative and were supported by authentic materials
and interactive tasks.
Designed a communicative curriculum with a situational syllabus for the schools lowresource/low-tech, large class size context.

Presented on the history of Haiti, focusing particularly on its linguistic heritage
Introduced on the needs assessment for 6th grade English at St. Andres Episcopal School
in Hinche, Haiti.
Discussed the 6th grade curriculum and teacher training as well as materials to be donated
to the school.
