This document supplies the Standard Operating Procedure for Personal Protective
Equipment. This is a standard document and may be changed slightly to adhere to
different circumstances. This document is divided in to an Introduction, Regulation,
Need Assessment, Training, PPE, Documentation and record Retention section. This
document stands as a procedure document to be followed when applying the
Personal Protective Equipment Program to your specific occupation.
PPE Guidance Document (link listed above)
This document provides a more specific overview of the procedures to be followed
according to OSHA. This document is provided for guidance in order to better
understand the Standard Operating Procedure. Feel free to browse this document
sections on PPE to find out what it entails when implanting the PPE Program as
required by OSHA regulations to prevent harm to employees.
PPE Regulations (link listed above)
This document list all OSHA regulations associated with Personal Protective
Equipment. These regulations are to be followed in case of an inspection and to
prevent harm to employees. This document also lists the different parts of PPE and
state regulations. Each occupation that requires Personal Protective Equipment
must comply with these regulations or be fined to suffer the consequences.
PPE Environmental Law (link listed above)
This document is provided to show the environmental law being put into place
regarding PPE. As of now it has been strongly debated on who should actually pay
for the PPE associated with different occupations because of the high cost. This
document was provided in 2007 and stands as an example of the laws being passed
and changed regarding PPE. As of now jobs provide most of the compensation for
PPE when it is required however, this may change.

Personal Compliance Process Essay

Personal Protective Equipment in most environmental and healthcare facilities is

of high importance. PPE does not stand alone in protecting employees but it is one of the
main focuses. The SOP and guidance documents provide EHS professionals guidance
when setting a PPE Program up for their company. Trainings must be done by all
employees in order for everyone to understand the importance of PPE. Some jobs cause
the handling of hazardous material and can be detrimental to many without the correct
PPE being enforced. There may be several reasons some employees may not comply with
proper PPE so our job is to discourage these reasons. With federal and state OSHA
regulations in place it now becomes important for supervisor of the facility to enforce
compliance with the regulations. By finding these documents I have learned that more
jobs require PPE than I thought. PPE is not something to play with. Jobs must offer
proper PPE to be worn on site at all times. When our class visited Exterran they had
enough PPE for everyone to wear when visiting the site. PPE also is in place in order for
safety in the case of emergency. When we visited Exterran we wore hard hats, earplugs
and safety glasses. The hard hats were actually color-coded. There was white for the EHS
professionals, red for the employees, and white for any visitors not usually on site. This
would come in handy if there was an emergency evacuation. The employees would then
know to guide any visitors on where to go since we would not know their procedure. The
development of a SOP Program which is divided in to an Introduction, Regulation,
Need Assessment, Training, PPE, Documentation and record Retention section
would serve as the first step in properly implementing a plan the would comply
with the OSHA regulations. This document stands as a procedure document to be

followed when applying the Personal Protective Equipment Program to your

specific occupation. The guidance document would be the guide as stated in its title
into implementing a proper program and selecting the proper PPE. These
documents all work together in providing the site and all of its employees with
proper health and safety.
