The next day, Dana got up and went to the arena to wait for Melinda.

Dana thought that

she would be riding in the morning just like yesterday. When Melinda arrived, she said that
instead of riding first thing in the morning, they were going to do an art project and ride in the
afternoon.
This is not what we did yesterday? I dont like when plans change without me knowing about it!
Dana thought and began to get really upset.
Melinda saw Dana and came over to see what was wrong. Dana didnt want to go and work on
an art project. The clock on the barn said 9a.m. and she was supposed to ride at 9a.m. just like
yesterday. Melinda smiled and touched Danas shoulder. Come on Dana, we are painting
today.
Dana started crying, But it is 9a.m. We ride at 9a.m.!
Not today Dana, not today, now lets go. Melinda said.
Dana did not like change. Dana liked routine and knowing exactly what was planned for the day.
Any changes to a routine upset Dana and made her feel mad. Dana went to art class but refused
to paint. She sat by herself as others painted.
Later that night, Dana waited for Elizabeth to fall asleep. Once Elizabeth was asleep, Dana ran to
the barn to see Blizzy. When she entered the barn, Blizzy turned to her with a mouth full of hay
and nickered. Dana stroked Blizzys neck and put her head down on his back.
Are you okay, Dana? Blizzy asked.
No. Dana replied sniffling.
Dana told Blizzy what happened. I just dont like change. I have always not liked change.
Dana said.
The world is full of changes, Dana. Blizzy replied. How do you handle change when you are
at school or home?
Dana explained, When I am at school, my teachers give me a schedule that has a list of all the
activities that will happen that day. My teacher goes over my schedule before school starts, so I
know exactly what to expect.
That sounds like a good tool to help you Dana. Many children use this. It is called a visual
schedule. Blizzy replied. Have you thought of talking to Melinda about making one?
No replied Dana, but I think that a schedule would help me here. Dana said.
Dana looked at the clock in the barn and knew that she should make her way back to the cabin.
Dana stroked Blizzys muzzle and ran back to the cabin.
