Subject: Re- Adherence to Ideology and Principles of Pakistan

On 26th October 2014, a stall showing Israeli culture was arranged at International Islamic
University Islamabad; the university administration confirmed the suspension of three staff
members responsible for conducting a mock U.N. debating contest.
Students set up the stall, which featured Israeli flags and pictures of Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu, as part of their model U.N. exercise at the weekend. The display, which also
included a banner saying Welcome to the Land of Peace and Prosperity, triggered a furious
response from rightwing student groups who smashed its contents.
Pakistan and Israel have no diplomatic relations and Jewish state is widely disliked in the
conservative Islamic republic. In this context HEC issued notices to all the universities placed at
PUC.
This event has received immense media coverage and has also been debated in the National
Assembly. Comments in the media varied as both ends for and against the event.
