The Culture of Having Multiples

Speech goal:

I want to inform my audience about the culture and life of

families with multiples

Thesis:

Having multiple babies at one time can cause extreme stress to the
expecting family, even if the pregnancy was planned.

Attention Getter:
How many of you have a twin or know someone
that has or is a twin?

Credibility Statement:
I have researched the topic significantly, and written
a ten page paper on the topic.

Thesis:
Having multiple babies at one time can cause extreme
stress to the expecting family, even if the pregnancy
was planned. First, I will discuss what multiples are.
Second, I will discuss the financial hardship. Finally, I
will discuss the health and ds hazards of having more
than one baby at a time.

Body of Speech

As obvious as it sounds having twins doubles the cost needed to raise the
children.

It cost $250,000 to raise a child to the age of 18.

Which means if you have twins you will spend $500,000.

This is at the most basic level, not including luxuries

like going out to eat and family vacations.

College is an important part of todays society, will you be

able to afford sending two kids at one time?

Now that Ive discussed the financials, I will now discuss the safety of
both the mother and the children
The safety of the mother is important because you need a healthy mother
to have a healthy baby, and everyone wants a healthy baby.

Where will you go on family vacations? What if one kid

wants to go deep sea fishing but the other wants to visit a near
by shopping mall, which so you do?

Moms might be put on bed rest.

Best rest helps the mother gain weight.

Prevents the mother from doing any physically challenging

tasks.

What mothers should and shouldnt do.

a.

Mothers need to eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, it helps the

baby get the proper nutrition

Mothers should not drink alcohol because e that could

damage the development of the babies.

Can having more than one baby be a health issue to the babies as well?

The baby could be born with a low birth weight.

They may also be born premature if the mother is not able

to carry them dull term

Eyes and other body parts may nor develop completely before
born.

Now that we have learned about financials and safety of having

multiples, I will discuss the opinions of twins themselves.
What is it like to grow up with someone your own age.

Positives of growing up with a twin or triplet.

Life was like a giant sleepover! You always had a friend over
even after curfew, because he lived with you.

I was always good at math and science, Cody was always

good at reading and writing.

What were some negative points about being a twin?

a.

We were never spoiled. All of our toys and games were shared
we never had our own toys.

b.

There were many petty fights, arguing about sharing or

who gets to ride shotgun.

c.

Graduate with debt, its tough for parents to help out

paying for school with two kids at one time.

Conclusion
In conclusion, having twins or being a twin is a wonderful thing to
be a part of. However there will be bumps in the road single
children dont have to worry about just as there are positives that
they will never experience.
