Discuss Social wellness and what it is. Social wellness is being active in your community. It
involves supporting a healthy environment, paying attention to all the dimensions of wellness
as they effect yourself and others. Having high social wellness means being involved with
the world around and actively participating. This can be something as easy as being part of
a school run organization, recycling to reduce your carbon footprint, spending time with
friends and family, or something more involved like volunteering your time in your community
or being part of a political movement.

at least one wellness

Show slide 5 and ask the students if any of them currently practice any of these exercises,
such as being involved in a student organization. Ask for student volunteers to come up and
draw their social circle on the board. Show slide 6 as an example.

Student will be able to construct a

wellness goal for themselves.
DOK III: Applying

A large part of social wellness is being an effective communicator with others. Often times
we need to practice actively listening to others instead of actively speaking.
Game of Telephone: Each student will need a piece of paper and a pencil. Emphasis that
students shouldnt share what they write down until the end of the game.
Bring out the three phrase cards and distribute them to three students as equally apart in
distance as possible. The students with the phrase cards should read the phrase they have
to themselves. When they are ready, they should whisper their phrase to a student next to
them. They should only whisper it once! The listening student should write down what they
heard and move on to share their phrase with another student. If a sharing student has
more than 1 phrase, they can share 1 phrase of their choosing. If the listening student has
already heard it, share a different one. Each student should continue to share phrases until
they have collected all three.

communication
easier.
Can you
identify some
ways we can
practice physical
wellness?

At the end of the game, ask a few different students to tell you what three phrases they
heard. (Not the original students from the beginning of the game)
Talk to the class about why they might have misheard. Was it hard to pay attention while
moving around? Were they more focused on what phrases they were missing than what
they should have been listening to? Ask them to list different ways they think they could
have been a better listener or communicator.

Move onto slide 7 and discuss physical wellness. Physical wellness is about practicing a
variety of healthy habits. Eating right, getting regular physical activity, and taking time for
yourself to help reduce stress. Having a proper balance of self-care can help your body
stay in better health. This can lead not only to you looking good, but also feeling good.
Ask the students to list some of the ways they stay physically healthy. Have students bring
out a pen and paper. Using some of the examples they listed or a new one they think of,
have each student construct one wellness goal for themselves to complete for seven days (1
week). Example: This week I will make sure I get at least 8 hours of rest a night.
