Language Proficiency Requirement
Completion of the Bilingual-Bicultural Education courses is not sufficient for a bilingual (Y__)
endorsement. You must score at the Superior Level in (French, German, Greek, Russian,
Spanish, Italian, Polish, Hebrew, Arabic, Vietnamese, Korean, Servo-Croatian/Bosnian,
Chaldean, Chinese, Filipino, Japanese, and any Other Language) as measured by the Oral
Proficiency Interview (OPI) and the Writing Proficiency Test (WPT) from the American Council
on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). All persons seeking the Bilingual endorsement
(Y__) in conjunction with the Education Specialist Certificate Program must also show language
proficiency in English as measured by The Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC)
Basic Skills Test and pass The Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC) Bilingual (Y__).

endorsement (NS__) in conjunction with the Education Specialist Certificate Program must also

(MTTC) English as a Second Language (NS__).
Second Language Learning Experience Documentation
Candidates must document experience learning a second language in order to gain an
understanding and appreciation for the processes of learning an additional language.
