Statement from Jonathan Pelto on the news that

Chris Dodd will not seek re-election to the United States Senate

“And so it ends. I began my political life in 1975 with Chris Dodd. What I know about
politics, Connecticut and making a difference grew out of that experience. As an intern
then campaign staff I was, am and will always be a Dodd person. Like so many who
admire Chris Dodd and appreciate his impact on Connecticut, the country and the world,
I feel a tremendous sense of sadness, frustration and anger today. We are a better world
because of him and losing him from the Senate is nothing short of catastrophic.”

“He has been an extraordinary champion for many causes, but none less then his
dedication to children and children’s issues. No one who has served in the United States
Senate has done more to help children around the world. Whether it was the Family
Leave Act, which will go down in history as the most important pro-family legislation
since the Great Depression, or his work on international health issues, Chris Dodd has
been the single most effective and most important voice in the battle to make our world a
better and healthier place for children. Literally hundreds of millions of lives have been
improved because of him. Few can claim such a legacy.”
