Two students are partners.

Partner #1 reads a story/passage while Partner #2
turns over a timer or begins a stopwatch.
Partner #2 listens to Partner #1 read and listens for
number of repetitions, phrasing of words, and
expression in voice.
When the time is over, Partner #2 completes
Fluency Check worksheet. Then Partner #1 and
Partner #2 switch jobs.

I printed the different levels of passages on

different colored cardstock and put them on a ring.
The timer is from Oriental Trading.
You can find longer passages at Reading A-Z. This
site has a few free passages.

Fluency Check Passage #4

Story: Dodge Ball Level: 3rd

One of my favorite things about school is recess.

We go outside after lunch. My friends and I like to
play dodge ball. Each day we pick a new person to
be in the middle. Today it was my turn. Everyone
was throwing the ball at me but I dodged it. I am a
fast runner. I think that helped me. But, then I got
tired and did not move fast enough. My friend,
Jake, threw the ball and hit me. It is a fun game!
