CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT PLAN

Classroom Management Plan

An elementary setting classroom management is a mixture of teaching style, classroom

layout and discipline plan.

A teacher should look at his or her strengths and weaknesses, and what things work for
him or her.

Diverse student populations should be prepared for in any classroom management plan.

Classroom Management should affect everyone involved in a positive way.

An open classroom, where a teacher is more of a facilitator or co-learner, is more

effective than a classroom in which a teacher lectures or instruct and students sit.

The classroom should be centered on project based learning and hands-on learning.

Everything in the classroom and how it is organized has a big effect on classroom
management.

Learning should be centered and that the room as a whole should assist in flowing from
one activity to another.

Tables are preferable to desks.

Each student should be given a cubby to store their own tools and books.

Spaces are provided which are specifically geared for each subject like a reading corner,
and a math center.

Expectations are set early and enforced properly

A disciplinary plan is in place, which is understood by the students and the parents.

Teachers must practice patience.

Students receive the chance to correct their behavior when they are acting in a way that is
disruptive.

Teachers rely on organizational tools such as folders, binders, cubbies, baskets and so on
to help stay ordered.

Each day needs a set schedule to stick to.

Each lesson set up ahead of time.

Alternate plans are set up to combat any unforeseeable issues that may arise.

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT PLAN

lessons are chosen utilizing awareness of cultural and language diversity, learning style
diversity, diverse student learning backgrounds, and the individuality of each student.

Individual lessons have options and choices that allow each student to discover the best
way to complete them.

Groups are chosen based on the strengths and weaknesses of each student within the
group.

Homework is a continuation of the days learning rather than a handout or worksheet that
is meant to review mass concepts.

Students are individuals, not demographics.

Proper set up and maintenance will help the teacher teach and learn with his or her
students.

Parents will be treated like partners in their childs education.

Substitute Teacher Plan

Dear Sub,
Thank you so much for coming today. The following class procedures are left for your
convenience. Please refer to them for the daily schedule and instructions on how class works for
us. I have provided a map with the locations youll need to know labeled and highlighted. I have
also included a list of class rules and school rules. I have an agreement with Miss Davis next
door in room 213 that if a student gets out of hand you can send that student to her and she will
follow through with appropriate disciplinary actions. There are instructions on how to input roll
call which must be input by 9:30 and it is easiest to input the roll as you take it first thing in the
morning. If you have difficulty logging in there is a printed roll sheet, and you may ask Miss
Davis for assistance. The printed roll sheet also has notes regarding each student.
Thank You,
Karla Gustafson

Implementation
The first day of first grade will start with line drills. Learning how to line up and walk the
halls. We will start from the very first line up where students meet on the playground. We will
walk from place to place until the entire class walks correctly. There will, of course, be
instruction about walking expectations before we start.
Once in the classroom the students and I will go over the classroom routine and the
objectives for that day. Including starting with the normal opening, followed by assigning class
numbers, cubbies, and seats.
The first task of class will be a group discussion on the school rules that we must follow.
We as a class will write a list of classroom expectations for the upcoming school year. Each
student will receive a copy of this list of rules to take home and sign with their parents.
Students will then be lead in an activity that will become their disciplinary actions should
they break a school rule, or fail to adhere to classroom expectations. This will also be sent home
for them and their parents to sign.

WELCOME TO FIRST GRADE!

Dear Parents,
Hey there, and welcome to first grade. My name is Miss Gustafson
(pronounced gus tough son) but most just call me Miss G or Miss Gus. First
Grade is an exciting time for our young ones and I hope to make this year
one that they remember. As kids they are discovering that they have some
control over themselves and their environment, and rather than fight that, I
would like to use it. Your students have come up with their own set of
classroom expectations, and consequences. I have sent home a copy for
them, and you, to go over together and sign. I have also included a list of
school rules, and a guide for navigating first grade.
Homework, in my opinion, is a continuation of what your student did
today in class. Each activity has additional hand-outs that go along. Your
student has received a Bee Book in which he or she will record the daily
objectives and what he or she needs to finish as homework. The Homework
list has a place for you and your student to sign each night when each task is
completed. If your student finishes in class he or she will receive a No
Homework slip which needs to be signed and returned.
Our classroom is one of redirection as opposed to punishment. Your
child will be responsible for his or her behavior and, with the exception of
major or continuing issues, once a behavior has been corrected there will be
no further action taken. We do not do the customary Card system. We will
use Class Dojo to set up a system of rewards, and this will help us to record
classroom behaviors. If you have provided your e-mail, you will receive a
weekly update on your child. You will also be provided with a parent log in so
that you may check on your childs status throughout the week.
We have a great class this year, and I look forward to getting to know
everyone!

Assessment
I believe the classroom management assessments are already built in. Do the students
thrive in the class, or are they struggling? My assessments will come in the form of the number
of disciplinary issues, and the end of the year scores. It is my hope that my classroom
management can be fluid enough to bend and differentiate depending on my students, while at
the same time maintaining the structure that helps us get things done. If tasks are not being
completed, or if students are getting out of hand, management will change to produce the desired
results.
