A teacher should look at his or her strengths and weaknesses, and what things work for
him or her.
Diverse student populations should be prepared for in any classroom management plan.
The classroom should be centered on project based learning and hands-on learning.
Everything in the classroom and how it is organized has a big effect on classroom
management.
Learning should be centered and that the room as a whole should assist in flowing from
one activity to another.
Each student should be given a cubby to store their own tools and books.
Spaces are provided which are specifically geared for each subject like a reading corner,
and a math center.
A disciplinary plan is in place, which is understood by the students and the parents.
Students receive the chance to correct their behavior when they are acting in a way that is
disruptive.
Teachers rely on organizational tools such as folders, binders, cubbies, baskets and so on
to help stay ordered.
Alternate plans are set up to combat any unforeseeable issues that may arise.
lessons are chosen utilizing awareness of cultural and language diversity, learning style
diversity, diverse student learning backgrounds, and the individuality of each student.
Individual lessons have options and choices that allow each student to discover the best
way to complete them.
Groups are chosen based on the strengths and weaknesses of each student within the
group.
Homework is a continuation of the days learning rather than a handout or worksheet that
is meant to review mass concepts.
Proper set up and maintenance will help the teacher teach and learn with his or her
students.

Implementation
The first day of first grade will start with line drills. Learning how to line up and walk the
halls. We will start from the very first line up where students meet on the playground. We will
walk from place to place until the entire class walks correctly. There will, of course, be
instruction about walking expectations before we start.
Once in the classroom the students and I will go over the classroom routine and the
objectives for that day. Including starting with the normal opening, followed by assigning class
numbers, cubbies, and seats.
The first task of class will be a group discussion on the school rules that we must follow.
We as a class will write a list of classroom expectations for the upcoming school year. Each
student will receive a copy of this list of rules to take home and sign with their parents.
Students will then be lead in an activity that will become their disciplinary actions should
they break a school rule, or fail to adhere to classroom expectations. This will also be sent home
for them and their parents to sign.

Assessment
I believe the classroom management assessments are already built in. Do the students
thrive in the class, or are they struggling? My assessments will come in the form of the number
of disciplinary issues, and the end of the year scores. It is my hope that my classroom
management can be fluid enough to bend and differentiate depending on my students, while at
the same time maintaining the structure that helps us get things done. If tasks are not being
completed, or if students are getting out of hand, management will change to produce the desired
results.
