badminton team for another successful
tournament that took place last Saturday! A
huge congratulation goes to Clody, Hugo,
Charbel, Aidan, Sophie, Corey, Robert and
Christopher who all won in their category.
Your coaches are all very proud of you! This
Tuesday practice is cancelled and will
resume next Tuesday December 2!

How to Write an
Effective Thesis

Recap - What is a thesis?

The thesis is the main argument
of an essay.
This is what you will set out to
prove in the paragraphs to follow.

The Trick
Start with an I believe sentence.

For example,
I believe that fate brought the
characters, Romeo and Juliet,
together, determining the outcome
of their relationship.

Now remove I believe that and you have
your statement. It is that simple!

Remember
In an essay, you cant use the first
person so you MUST remember to
remove I believe that.

Practice

In pairs, write some thesis statements. Use the

following questions to help guide you.

For example:
1.

Is loneliness more powerful than friendship in the novel?

Thesis: I believe that Loneliness is more powerful than friendship in the

novel.

Alternatively: Friendship is the most pervasive force in the novel

defeating loneliness.

Now for the following

slide.
Pick one of the questions, that you
feel you could write about best.
1. Copy the essay question down.
2. Create a thesis statement for it.

Chrysalids, demonstrates the challenges of
being different more effectively?
