Part 1: Assessment Technology

http://b.socrative.com/student/#take-quiz/q/1. The assessment is true/false and multiple
choice question. There are a total of five questions all together. The assessment is a formative
assessment because it measures students progress throughout the course. I will use the data
collected at the end of the graded results to see which students are struggling and to see what I
can do to make sure everyone is succeeding to the best of their ability. Students will be quizzed
on shapes, numbers, letters and animal sounds. They have recently learned all about these
subjects in my classroom.
Answer key1. True
2. False
3. B. front
4. False
5. C. moo
Introduction:
The essay will be about assessing students progress while using technology. There are
two different types of assessments, one is at the end of the class and one is throughout the class.
There are many programs and ideas that are successful in assessing students. A few of the ways
to assess students using technology is by assigning them projects on stuff that was just taught on
the computer then having the students present what they learned to the class. A few more ways is
by creating end of course exams and chapter tests on the internet. .

Technology to Facilitate Ongoing Efforts to Assess Student Learning

Technology is used in a lot of ways by teachers and students in classrooms all around thw
world. Technology is used to create assessments to see how much students have learned in a
certain class. Teachers can use the internet to prepare the tests and the students can use the
internet to take the tests. Some online programs even grade the tests for the teachers so that the
students can receive their results instantly.
Online quizzes Teachers could use online quizzes to see how far students have come
compared to the other students in the class. Teachers could use this to see which students need
help in certain areas of the subject. Parents would also benefit from these quizzes so they could
see where their students are during each subject and section in the classroom. Online quizzes are
often designed by teachers on the internet that the students can access from the internet. The
quizzes can either be multiple choice, true and false or they can be short answer questions.
End of course exams are tests that are given during the last week of school. They are
designed on the internet by the teacher and they include all of the material that the students have
learned throughout the semester. The students will be graded on the amount of correct answers
that they choose, since it is always a multiple choice test. The test will help teachers prepare for
the next semester because they will know which things the students struggled with the most. The
test will be completely online and be graded using a score card.
Projects can be used to see how much the students learned after a certain amount of time.
This method can be used throughout the course or at the end to see how well the student did
throughout the entire course. The project would be on the computer using either PowerPoint or
Microsoft word. Students would be assigned a specific lesson to do their project on then they
would be assessed on how well they understood the material covered in the project. This project

could be given to the class as an individual assessment/project or it could be given in small

groups then presented to the class.
(Formative and Summative Assessments)
A formative assessment is when the teacher creates an assessment that assesses the
students as they progress through the course according to (Eberly, 2014). There are many ways
to assess students using formative assessments, one way is to have students take notes and pull
out the main point of the speech or lecture. A quiz that the teacher made online focusing on the
lesson just learned in class is a formative assessment. A summative assessment is done at the end
of the course and is usually a quiz created by a teacher on the internet and compared to a
benchmark. An end of course exam and a project are examples of summative assessments.
(Pros and Cons of using Technology to Facilitate Assessment)
According to (Taylor, 2002) there are pros and cons to online learning and doing
assessments online. One of the pros is that the computer based assessments and classes are easier
for the students to access but the cons would be that the teachers and students would have to get
use to the way the classes work and they would have to get to create their own assessments on
the internet. In my opinion one of the pros would be easier access for the county to see how the
kids are learning the things that the teachers are teaching them. One of the cons would getting the
students use to the new system, some kids just do not like using computers to learn. There are
also some kids that get headaches from staring at a computer screen for too long so they would
have to give the students breaks if the tests were long.
(Should a teacher only use technology to assess student learning? Why or why not?)
Teachers should use technology to assess learning because there are a lot of resources
available to teachers and students. Some programs also allow the tests and quizzes to be graded

on the same day as the student takes them because some of the online programs will grade them
for the teacher. Some websites allow teachers to create quizzes and tests for their students using
material that they have recently taught their students in class.
What is the importance of assessment technology in connection with the ISTE standards?
Assessment technology is very important according to the ISTE standards because
students can teachers learn how to connect and learn together. Assessment technology can be
useful because it can used to create and grade quizzes and tests. That helps the parents, teachers
and students out.
Concluding Paragraph for Software to Support Assessment
In conclusion, teachers should be allowed to assess students using the internet. There are
many different programs and software programs available to students and teachers. Teachers can
create quizzes and tests for their students at any time and some programs will even grade them
for the teachers and students. Teachers can assign projects to assess their students also they can
use the tests to evaluate students after each chapter or after each class.
