High School Students Specifically 11th Graders


Learning all aspects of the Civil War
SSUSH9 The student will identify key events, issues, and individuals relating to the
causes, course, and consequences of the Civil War.

Summary of Classroom Learning Experiences: How would you recommend this resource be used in a classroom?
When? How many hours a day? How long?

The students will complete the wiki during class time as well as at home.
1 hour per day minimum
1.5 weeks

Students publishing to others who will use/care about the project; etc.) Is the project truly authentic?

Challenging, Authentic, Student directed, explorer, teacher, producer, and


collaborative.

Academic Rigor and Higher Order Thinking: Is the project academically rigorous? Are standards being addressed?
Is the project promoting higher order thinking? Where does student thinking fall on Blooms taxonomy and why?

All standards will be addressed and it will be rigorous.


They can reach as high as synthesis by developing a better understanding of cause and
effect issues as related to the war.

Student Motivation Potential: On a scale of 1-10 how motivated/excited do you think the students be to
participate in this online learning experience? Why?

I think that they are looking for something outside of the normal reading/notetaking/think-pair-share type activities.

I plan on getting it to a 5 or 6 by having the students collaborate with a professional to


help with the wiki.

Implementation: How receptive would teachers/administrators be to using this Web-based project? What
objections might they have? What solutions/information/modifications/implementation procedures might
alleviate their concerns?

I would hope that they would be open to it.


Most do not want to give up what they are comfortable with.
I think that they will just have to evaluate the results as well as student enthusiasm and
hopefully that may help with their concerns

Yes, I would like to use it and I plan to use it.


I believe that it will be a great way for the students to learn the unit and be more
successful.
