Artifact Title: Weekly Progress Reports

Date: 09/08/2014 to Present

Artifact Description:
This artifact contains the Weekly Progress Reports made for Pre Student teaching. I
am currently completing my hours for Pre Student teaching at Mineral Point Elementary
School. I was assigned to the art classroom and interact with students from
kindergarten through fifth grade. At the end of the week I would reflect back and write
down what I thought was notable. Then I would write my reaction in the classroom.
Lastly, the cooperating teacher would go over what I noted and write her comments
about the week at the bottom of the page.
Wisconsin Teacher Standard Alignment:
This experience best aligns with Standard 9 Reflection: The teacher is a reflective
practitioner who continually evaluated the effects of his/her choices and actions on
others (students, parents, and other professionals in the learning community) and who
actively seeks out opportunities to grow professionally.
This artifact best aligns with standard nine because completing the weekly progress
reports helped me understand methods of inquiry that provide me with a variety of selfassessment and problem-solving strategies for reflecting on my practice. During the
weekly progress reports, I was able to give possible solutions for behavioral problems in
the classroom and the cooperating teacher helped me figure out the most effective way
interact with the children.
I am more competent now in this standard because I have become more of a reflective
practitioner who continually evaluates the effects of my choices and actions on others,
and I actively seek out opportunities to grow professionally through the guidance of my
cooperating teacher by filling out my weekly progress reports.
UW-Platteville Knowledge, Skill, Disposition Alignment:
This experience best aligns with KSD4.a:Reflects on Teaching The Candidate makes
an accurate and thoughtful reflection of his/her teaching effectiveness, is aware of
specific elements of his/her teaching that contributed to successful instruction, and can
offer alternative teacher action to predict the future.
The experience of writing weekly progress reports best aligns with this KSD because it
allowed me time to ask my cooperating teacher specific questions on how to better
handle a situation and improve my teaching effectiveness. The cooperating teacher was

able to point out specific actions that I did that altered the students behavior both
positively and negatively.
I am more competent after this experience because I was able to reflect on teaching my
pizza lesson and altering specific elements of my lesson that were too overwhelming for
my students. I was able to create an alternative action that ended up as a successful
approach.
Secondary KSDs:
KSD2.e: Organizing Physical Space
KSD4.b: Maintaining Accurate Records
KSD4.d: Contributing to the School and District
What I learned about teaching/learning from this experience:
From this experience of completing the weekly progress reports I learned that teaching
is an ongoing process. It takes many years to develop that inner authority. However, the
teacher never stops reflecting, assessing and learning. I also learned that it is okay to
ask for more experienced coworkers to watch how you interact with students to have a
fresh pair of eyes to offer solutions.
What I learned about myself as a prospective educator as a result of this
experience:
Throughout this experience, I have discovered that, as a teacher, I will never be able to
find the perfect teaching method to teach every class because every class is different.
As a perspective educator, I learned that I will never stop learning new ways to deal with
disruptive situations. There is always a kid in every class that is an instigator. It takes
time to figure out how to best deal with random outbursts and flying school supplies.
