Biography
Halldor Gunnlgsson was one of the
leading figures in the Danish modern
architecture. Born in Frederiksberg in
1918. He studied at Royal Danish
Academy of Fine Arts ,School of
Architecture in Copenhagen. He had
many activities among his career life : a
lecturer ,a building arts professor and a
dean at the same hool where he
graduated .

Simple and minimalist

His Own House


Location
Gunnlgssons own house is built on Rungsted Strandvej
No 68 placed in the middle of the beautiful and natural
surroundings of resund ( coast toward east and west ).

Style
The style of the house is modernist , simple but beautiful
with highly refined and clarified detailing
During his travels ,and his personal interpretation of the
modernist Western American and japanese traditional
style,the inspiration found ,he adapted it to the
scandinavian style with the local qualities and demands.

It is characterised by simplicity , functionality and it is


combined with nature.

Construction
The construction consists of
two whitewashed end walls
that face North and South and
of three ,heavy ,exposed
wooden beams , one in each
faade (East and West) running
through the center of the
house all resting on the end
walls and wooden columns.
The house has large , floor to
ceiling windows which can
both be opened to the beach
and the sea view towards east
,with the small , protected
garden in west.

Wood -Untreated deal
battens, Dark stained
wood , Salt-impregnated
boards
Bricks
Swedish dark marble
Glass
Stone

Conclusion
Halldor Gunnlgssons house is a brilliant example of the
new style characteristic of the modernist movement in
Denmark in the 50s and 60s.
His ouvre is an idea of an architectural whole
functionality and regards for the surroundings.
