CLASS OBJECTIVE: Every student will obtain a direct


understanding of the Earth, Life and Physical Science.
Every student will complete a science fair project based
on Earth, Life or Physical Science.
MATERIALS NEEDED FOR CLASS: 3-Ring Binder w/
loose leaf (3 sections), folder, pens, pencils, and
highlighter, Box of tissues, metric ruler, and calculator
(occasionally).
HOMEWORK: Homework will be assigned every night
whether, a written assignment or notes review. All class work
and homework assignments should include the school heading
& assignment #. Example:

TESTS AND QUIZZES: There will be a test or quiz after


each chapter. Tests will be announced in advance and will
include materials covered in the book, lab, and class. All tests
must be signed and returned. Pop quizzes will be given with or
without notice.

LAB: Labs will relate to topics covered in class. All students


must keep their lab sheets in a folder.

6.

ABSENCES: It is the students responsibility to copy


notes and make up all missed work upon return to school.
Students are encouraged to contact a classmate when class is
missed. It is helpful for students to have a homework buddy
who can collect work for them.

BEHAVIOR: All students must behave appropriately and


follow class rules at all times. (see reverse side)

SCIENCE SAFETY RULES


Follow all instructions carefully. Use special care
when you see the word CAUTION.
Never do laboratory work unless your teacher is
supervising you.
Always follow the directions given by your lab
manual or by your teacher.
Know the location of ALL safety equipment in the
laboratory.
Always wear protective eyewear and clothing unless
instructed otherwise by your teacher.
NEVER run, push, or engage in horseplay of any
kind in the laboratory.
Never eat or drink in the laboratory.
Report any accident, spill, or breakage to you
teacher immediately.
Always clean your work area and equipment at the
end of the lab period.
Dress properly for the laboratory
a. Roll long sleeves above the wrist.
b. Do not wear loose-fitting sleeves or bulky
outerwear.
c. Tie back long hair.
Use care with electricity.
a. Always make sure electrical cords are kept
away from the edge of the table where people
passing by can catch them.
b. Always make sure that your hands are dry
before you handle any electrical equipment.
c. Always use electrical equipment in a
completely dry area.
Be careful with laboratory glassware.
a. Always check glassware before you use it.
Never use glassware that is chipped or
cracked. Show this glassware to your teacher.
b. Do not clean up any broken glassware, inform
the teacher
Be very careful with heat or fire.
a. Always use tongs to handle hot containers,
objects, or materials.
b. Always heat liquids slowly and/or cover to
avoid spattering.
c. Always turn burners and hotplates off when
they are not in use.
d. Never allow flammable materials such as
alcohol near an open flame.
e. Notify your teacher in the case of a burn.
Minor burns should be soaked immediately in
cold running water.
Use extreme care when working with chemicals.
a. Always treat the chemicals in the laboratory as
hazardous.
b. Never taste substances in the laboratory.
c. Never smell or touch substances in the
laboratory without specific instructions.
d. Never mix any chemicals unless you are
instructed to do so.
e. Use materials from containers that are clearly
marked.
f. Wear goggles and an apron whenever heating
chemicals.
g. If you spill any chemicals on your skin, wash
your skin with running water. Inform your
teacher immediately.

CLASS ROOM RULES


1. Respect all classmates and adults at all
times.
2. No talking while others are speaking.
3. Raise your hand to speak in class
4. No EATING, DRINKING or
CHEWING GUM in class
5. Be on time and be prepared to work
each day.
6. Respect others personal space.
7. Follow safety rules at all times.
8. Ask questions if you do not understand.
9. Complete all assignments on time.
10. Bring a positive attitude everyday and
we will all enjoy learning about Science
