Secondary ESOL Walk-Throughs 2012-13

In 2012-13 the District in collaboration with each secondary school conducted walkthroughs in
the months of April and May to gather data on teacher implementation of ESOL using the ESOL
instructional rubric. Here are the results:
At the High Schools, three classrooms were visited. Focus was on the following goal: Organize
instruction to develop English to the next proficiency level & monitor practice and provide
immediate and specific feedback. One class scored at the proficient level in implementation of
best ESOL practices, while two classes scored at the developing level.
At French Prairie MS, four ESOL classrooms were visited. Focus was on the following goal:
Ensure student interactions are frequent, purposeful and accountable and that student
interactions are frequent, purposeful and accountable. Two classes scored a developing level
of implementation while another two scored at beginning level.

2012-13 Total for Secondary ESOL classes:

Proficient = 1/7 or 14%


Developing = 4/7 or 58%
Beginning = 2/7 or 28%
