Exercise No. 5
PREPARATION OF SIMPLIFIED CEPHALOSPORIN SKIN TESTING
I. Objectives:
a. Prepare a simplified cephalosporin for skin testing,
b. Label the solution properly,
c. To give brand names of cephalosporin drugs, and
d. To identify the positive signs showing allergic reaction.
3. What are the emergency steps to be done in the presence of anaphylactic reaction
while performing skin testing?
IV. Conclusion:
Skin testing can help confirm the substances that cause severe allergic reactions. In
preparing admixtures for skin testing, aseptic techniques should be practiced in order prevent
contamination. Skin testing admixture should be prepared right before the skin testing is
conducted to assure freshness of the admixture.
In the advent of an anaphylactic shock during skin testing, epinephrine is the effective
treatment for anaphylaxis. In addition to epinephrine, treatment for shock includes intravenous
fluids and medicines that support the actions of the heart and circulatory system. After a
person in shock is stabilized, antihistamines and steroids may be given to further reduce
symptoms.
