1-The Mouth
Its the place where digestion starts.
It has 3 main roles in digestion:1- teeth: cut & chew the food into small parts easy
to swallow.
2-saliva: has enzymes to break down the food
especially carbohydrates ( like bread) into sugars
& this makes the food mash & easy to swallow.
3- the tongue: pushes the food around when youre
chewing & pushes it towards the oesophagus to be
swallowed
2-0esophagus
the stretchy tube (pipe) that
connects your mouth and
your stomach .
3-Stomach
A stretchy muscular bag that holds your
food after you eat.
Your stomach has 3 important roles in
digestion:
1-breaks the food into a liquid mixture.
2-empty slowly this liquid mixture into the
small intestine.
3-stores the food youve eaten.
4-Small Intestine
Tube that is 22 feet ( 6.5 m) long.
Continues to digest food coming from the
stomach.
After digestion is over, the nutrients,
vitamins & minerals from the digested
food are absorbed into the blood from the
villi of the small intestine.
5-the pancreas
Has 2 functions in digestion:
1- releases its juices in the small
intestine to help digest the food
especially proteins & fats.
2-releases insulin hormone to the blood
to control the sugar levels.
6-the liver
1-produces the Bile juice.
The bile juice produced by the liver
is added to the S.I. to help digest &
absorb fats to the blood stream.
LIVER
Small
Intestine
6-Large Intestine
The last step in Digestion.
Gets waste from small intestine.
Has 2 important roles in digestion:
1-absorbs water & minerals from the
digested food remaining coming form the
S.I.
2-the left is a hard waste that the body
doesnt need so it passes form the L.I to
the rectum until its released in the toilet.
7-Gall Bladder
Stores the bile produced by the liver
until the body uses it
