Capillary viscometer
The principle is simple measurement
of the time for a volume of liquid
(solution or solvent) to flow through
the capillary in the vertically aligned
Viscometer.
Plate Viscometers
With this type of viscometer the solution is
placed in a space between two plates and
one is moved at constant speed relative to
the other which is held by a torsion wire
on which the viscous drag will exert a
torque: measurement of the torque
change with increase in speed (and hence
shear rate) gives the viscosity of the
solution. If this is repeated for the solvent
the relative viscosity can be readily found.
