Course Goals:
Session 1: Topic: Introduction to Teams
1. Learners will be able to explain the difference between a group and a team.
2. Learners will be able to discuss the drawbacks and the benefits of working in a team.
3. Learners will be able to describe the 5 different types of personalities that they can
encounter in a team.
4. Learners will be able to explain how a team benefits from having a diverse group of
colleagues.
Session 2: Topic: Team Communication
1. Learners will be able to describe the communication model.
2. Learners will be able to demonstrate how the connotative message can change the
meaning of the whole message.
3. Learners will be able to analyze a message by identifying the modes of non-verbal
communication used by the messenger.
4. Learners will be able to identify and analyze common barriers while communicating.

5. Learners will be able to identify poor listening skills and use active listening skills
correctly.
6. Learners will be able to use the steps involved in building collective communication.
Session 3: Topic: Analysis and planning a project
1. When given a project, learners will be able to develop team objectives.
2. When given a project, learners will be able to demonstrate how to ask for clarification on
their role for this specific work.
3. When given a project, learners will be able to assign and delegate tasks as a team.
Session 4: Topic: Working together
1. When given a project, learners will be able to make a decision using the stepladder
technique.
2. Learners will be able to explain how collaboration and performance are related in
teamwork.
3. Learners will be able to explain why is important to be accountable while working in a
team.
4. When given a problem, learners will be able to solve it in a creative way by using the 4
stages of problem solving.
5. When assigned to a team, learners will be able to participate in this group by using the
key elements to better interactions: information sharing, influencing and safety.
Session 5: Topic: Team Leadership (for Managers only)
1. When assigned to a team as a leader, learners will be able to lead, manage, coach a team
and create a positive environment.
2. Learners will be able to guide their team through the constructive controversy steps.
3. When assigned to a team as a leader, learners will be able to support their team using the
four main types of social support (emotional, instrumental, informational and appraisal).
4. Learners will be able to demonstrate how to use the four steps of ethical negotiation to
resolve conflicts.
5. Learners will be able to lead and use the steps involved in the workplace covenant.
Assessments
The learners will be assessed through the whole program through simple evaluation techniques
individually and as groups.
After the sessions are completed, the managers will still evaluate the employees performance
through observations and follow up meetings will be scheduled to address different needs and
skills.
