ELA

Reflection

After reading from the ELA framework, I would need to know every students
needs in my classroom and provide them with the best possible lesson that will help
them succeed in their learning. For example in an elementary classroom, I would
need to teach about literature, Informational texts, Print concepts, Phonological
Awareness, Phonics and word recognition, fluency, Knowledge of language and
vocabulary. Furthermore, about text types and purposes, production and
distribution of writing, research to build and present knowledge, and
comprehension and collaboration.

My English 305 and 308 classes have prepared me in how to teach my future
students about literature, Shakespeare, writing, and how to appreciate poems. For
example, in my English 305 class, my professor suggested to make students
appreciate literature by helping them understand what it is informing us and why
they wrote that piece of literature. For my English 305, the professor made us give
various presentations on K-12 books and learn how to incorporate them into a
lesson plan and how these books can help students make connections into their
everyday lives.

The areas in which I feel well prepared in English Language Arts/ Literature
would be on grades K- 4th grade. For example, I feel prepared in Reading literature,
reading informational texts, and Reading in history/ social studies.

The areas I feel less prepared in are Reading in science and technical
subjects. For example, citing specific textual evidence to support analysis of science
and technical texts.

The artifacts that I plan on sharing on this area for my portfolio is an Essay
on Childrens literature from my English 308 class. Also, another essay we wrote
about talking animals making a comparison to pieces of literature that can positively
affect children in their learning.

The work samples demonstrate my knowledge in English Language arts/
literacy because it demonstrates Childrens literature in how they can learn best.
The work samples connect to my personal experiences in the teaching and learning
of English Language Arts/ Literacy because when I was in Elementary I recall
enjoying books that had talking animals instead of humans because it fantasy books
help children get out of their real world and go into an imaginative world.
