Benefits and Drawbacks of Multimedia Types

Highest Good Institute eLearning program creates web-based learning, networking,
sharing among adult learners in the arts and entertainment industry. The adult learners are
educators, poets, spoken-word artists, authors, and writers. HGI advisory board conducted an
internet search to evaluate different types of multimedia strengths and weaknesses to recommend
three types of multimedia platforms facilities should use for training e-learning.
The internet search combined with feedback from a recent survey given to those students
that had completed a minimum of five multimedia e-learning classes, it was brought to our
attention that there were too many multimedia websites to choose from when collaborating with
learning teams and there are many learning modalities available for instruction with the everchanging technology available to instructors indicating the need to establish consistency. An
instructor can choose how he or she believes his or her course is best taught using one or
multiple Web 2.0 technologies however, the recommended list below should help in identify the
best multimedia tools and platforms.
Although there are numerous tools available to distribute information to adult learners we

highly recommend multimedia technology websites for eLearning instruction training to share
information with educators, students, community and stakeholders via websites we would like to
recommend instructors and students to use the following to develop consistency with instructing
multimedia.
Websites can:

Be viewed by everyone.

Be accessed quickly and easily.

Save money and paper.

Because the information is available on the website, there is no use to purchase books or
additional materials for the course.

Students can decide if they want to print any course information for his or her reference.

Save time by having information available at the tip of a finger ("Microsoft Office,"
2013).
Social media, and social networking, are new terms often used interchangeably by the

public and members of industry. Social media is a noun and is the platform used for social
networking. Social media websites offer products or services that allow users to network
socially. Thus the action of social networking results from individuals using social media to
allow people to communicate with each other. Social networking is accepted by many
members of the business community who use it to promote their organizations products or
services. The popularity of social networking is currently growing vastly in the education
