Purpose
To give an Aircraft Structure Mechanic the

fundamental skills to research general


aircraft information, drawings, repairs,
allowable damages, alteration to an aircraft,
acceptable hardware to use on aircrafts,
and Engineering requests.

Whos needs it
Training will be given to Aircraft Structural

Mechanics (Apprentices, Journeyman, and


Master Mechanics), Lead Persons,
Supervisors, Managers.

Why?
Training is required by the FAA for

mechanics working at a Maintenance, Repair


and Overhaul Station.
NO training, NO work!

Goals

Effectively research repair on any


aircraft given the location of the
discrepancy, type of damage, and
severity of the damage in a timely
manner

Mechanic will be able to request


engineering assistance within a two
hour period, given the repair is not
available in the Structural Repair
Manual.

Requires one and a half workdays to train
mechanics.

Modules will require mechanic to successfully


complete one module before pursuing to the next
module.

Tools required
Requires mechanic to know fundamentals of the
computer and companys intranet.

Networking will be is encouraged during some


modules. Team collaboration is encouraged in the
classroom as it is in the hanger.

Measurement
Knowledge checks will be administered for the
mechanics before moving to the next module.

Time verifications through the Aircraft Inventory


Management System (AIMS) to see reduced
maintenance hours.

Feedback
Feedback forms will be handed out at the end of
the course to verify the information was helpful, out
of date, or not enough.

Future Courses
There are approximately 300 structural mechanics
at VT Aerospace San Antonio.

Initial Curriculum training will take approximately


five straight weeks. Training approximately 25
mechanics every two days.

After the initial mechanics complete the courses
then the course will be given during new hire
orientation.
