Thissemesterinmy11thgradeyearIcompletedaprojectinmyartclassin
whichItookactionandgrewasglobalcitizen.Ididthisbycompletingaprojectinwhich
wechoseaglobalissueandacteduponit,byeitherraisingawarenessorattemptingto
putastoptoit.Weneededtoincorporateourissuewithasculptureweweretomake.
ThetopicmypartnerandIchoseweregayrights,specificallyinrussia.Thiswasamajor
issuebecausepeopleallaroundthecountrywereharassingandhurtinghomosexual
malesandfemalessimplybecauseitwassocallednontraditional.Afterdecidingour
topic,weneededtocomeupwithaplan,andwhatitwaswewantedtodo.Mypartner
andIdecidedthatwewantedtoraiseawarenessbycreatingsomethingtosymbolizeour
issueandhavepeoplesignsomethingtoacknowledgethattheyhavebecomeaware.
Aftercompletingresearchandfindinghelpfulbackgroundinformationwehaddecidedto
createamodeloftherussianchurchcalledtheSaintBasilCathedral.Wealsodecided
toincludetreesgrowingoutofthecathedraltorepresentaconformityashumans.
Howevertheleavesofthetreeswereindifferentcolorstorepresentthediversityand
differencesinpeople,whilestillshowingweareallthesamethroughtheuseofthetree
trunk.AfterpresentingourworktostudentsofVaughnwegotthemtosignacolored
leavesasanassurancethattheyhavebecomeawareofthisissue.

OverallthemostvaluablethingIlearnedwasthatIcanmakeadifferenceinthe
world.Althoughthatdifferencemaybesmall,Istillmanagedtohelpstopaglobalissue.I
learnedtotakeactionandfightforotherswhentheycouldnotfightforthemselves.This
wasaskillthatIdidnothavebeforebutnowthatIdoattainit,IfeelIcanhelpothersand
maketheworldabetterplace.

Anotherprojectthathelpedmetogrowwasthepropagandaprojectinmyhistory
class.ThisprojecthelpedmetogrowasastudentbecauseIlearnedskillsforacademic
success.Beforetheprojectwewerelearningaboutworldwartwoandtherole
propagandaplayedinit.Everygroupintheclasswasassignedadifferenttopictoinput
intoourpropaganda.ThetopicassignedtomygroupandIwasthedraftingandthe
enlistingofsoldiers.FormypropagandaIdecidedtocreateapostertobehungaround
town,justlikeitwouldbebackthen.OnmyposterIaddedapictureofanassaultrifle
fromthetime,Iputitinassumingmenofthetimewouldbeattractedtonewtechnology.
BesidesthepictureontheposterIaddedthesloganbustacapinajap.Inthemodern
worldthiswouldbeconsideredunacceptablebecauseoftheracisttermandthreat.But
inthosedaysitwaswhatinfluencedyoungmentofightfortheircountry.

Aftercompletingthisprojectihavecomeawaywithnewskills.TheskillthatI
havelearnedistheabilitytofollowhistoryandincorporateitintomyworkwhenneeded
anddosoaccurately.ThisisagreatskillthatIdidnothavebeforebecauseitallowsme
toturninworkthatismorecredibleandrealistictotimesofthepast.
