SPEAKING: PRESENTING

Signposting 1
In a good presentation it is not only what you say that is important how you say it is
equally important. Here a clear structure helps. When you move on to your next point or
change direction, tell your audience.
You can do this easily and effectively by using simple signposts to guide the audience
through your presentation:

To summarise
To expand on
To recap
To turn to
To digress
To conclude
To elaborate on

Once you know the nine basic signposts, you can build them into the points you make to
give direction and coherence to your presentations.
Complete the following signpost phrases and sentences using the notes to help you. The
first one has been done for you as an example. Note that wherever there is a forward slash
/, you need to add one or more words.
