Takashi Murakami is a Japanese contemporary artist that was born in 1962. He received

rom the traditional Japanese %anime& style. His color pallet is bright$ illed with vibrant yellows$
reds$ and blues. 'hile creating some paintings$ Murakami also creates artwork using computer
programs. The sub(ects o his pieces vary$ but many ocus on twisting reality into a new way or
the creation o his own uni)ue set o characters. Murakami is most recogni*ed or distorting the
line between high art +which is art viewed in museums, and low art +which is things like
advertisements,.
There were many things that drew me to Takashi Murakami. -ne o the ma(or things was
the color scheme. The bright and bold colors seem to draw you in and transport the viewer back
to their childhood days. They are playul and you have a tendency to eel happy when you look
at them. . also really like the cleanness o his lines and his shading. The ma(or thing that . ind
really intriguing is his use o repetition. /y repeating similar shapes or orms$ Murakami creates
a sense o movement and unity that is very appealing to the viewer.
Je 0oons
Je 0oons is a contemporary artist that
was born in 1ork 2ennsylvania. He received
many dierent degrees rom numerous schools$ such as a /3" rom the Maryland .nstitute
#ollege o "rt and honorary doctorates rom both the !niversity o #hicago and and the
#orcoran #ollege o "rt and 4esign. He is mainly a sculpture ocusing on popular icons or in
using the shapes o balloon animals in his sculptures. He uses stainless steel and a glossy
inish to get the shiny te5ture o his artwork. 0oon6s color pallet is very broad$ but generally uses
deep colors such as blue and red. He creates the ramework out o steel and then covers them
in mirror like panels and paints them.
There were many things that drew me to Je 0oons. 3irst$ . love the playulness o his
artwork. He oten takes things that most people have seen normal si*ed +like a balloon animal,
and recreates it in stunning similarity and on a much bigger scale. "nother thing that . love is his
color scheme. The deepness o the colors helps give the sculptures a grounded eel$ which
helps contrast the playulness o the sub(ect matter. The inal thing that . ind interesting about
0oons is that his artwork is ull o little details that many people would probably take or granted.
#arl "ndre
#arl "ndre is a contemporary sculpture that was born in 1978 in Massachusetts. "ndre
served in the "merican army in 198891986. 'hen he returned$ he began to e5periment with
sculpting with wood. He was one o the leading artists in the minimalism movement. .nstead o
carving or sculpting pieces$ he arranged usually raw materials into intriguing patterns. "ter
working in a railroad station$ "ndre became inspired by the repetition and overlapping lines o
the railroad tracks. He uses a wide array o mediums$ rom wood and paint to bricks and plates.
#arl "ndre does not have a set sub(ect matter$ and instead ocuses on the aesthetic o the
pieces. His color pallet usually remains what the item he6s using is$ but some o his pieces
contain splashes o color such as royal blue and golden brown. To create his art$ "ndre inds
similar ob(ects and arranges them together.
There were many things that drew me to #arl "ndre. -ne o the ma(or things was the
simplicity o his artwork. .t6s not too busy$ or too ull o colors. The color schemes are simple$
making the viewer ocus on the piece as a whole rather than one section. "lso$ the repetition o
similar or the same shapes makes or great rhythm in his pieces. . love the idea o using simple
everyday ob(ects that are usually overlooked and arranging them into interesting sculptures.
